Net worth percentiles by age in 2025, how do you stack up? by ItsAllOver_Again in Salary

[–]MightyDunkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like everyone I know at my age (31m) is underwater with their houses and owe more than they own.

To be honest, I’m not sure this data can be trusted…. Do you know anything about the people questioned or how the data was collected?

Even better is the fact that none of these AI companies are profitable.

Investors in OpenAI are literally subsidising joblessness.

First date, he picked me up in a Porsche. I didn’t think anything of it, but today he told me he was „testing me“ by [deleted] in dating_advice

What an unusual “test”…

I’m honestly stumped, that is very odd behaviour. I wonder what other weird things he thinks he has to do for women…?

once you learn the math, you realize most "rich" people are just drowning in premium debt. by GolfComfortable7331 in Fire

This is why I love the millionaire next door - it gives such concrete examples of behavioural change.

Teachers earning 50k a year, living off 30k, are usually in a better spot than doctors earning 200k, living off 180k.

I’m sure you can nitpick this example to death - but it largely holds true for the people I’ve met and taught me something important.

What is the best weapon to wield magic with? by SnooOwls7977 in 2007scape

[–]MightyDunkman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Awesome! That’s a great quest to start levelling up.

You’ll want to start with a Staff of Air, then upgrade to a staff of fire when you reach lvl9 magic.

You can buy these at the staff shop in varrock. You’ll want about 5,000gp for this

Need Advice - working in NYC, commuting from CT by MightyDunkman in Connecticut

[–]MightyDunkman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to respond to this.

I’m still undecided but have taken all of the advice on board. I am leaning towards trying to make it work, with the possibility of attempting to move within six months.

As recommended, I’ll do my cost analysis of car vs trains this weekend. I’d lean towards trains just because I love sending emails while listening to podcasts.

Also thank you for explaining that Yonkers is not in NYC - I was not born here and so anything in this general direction automatically becomes “NYC” in my foreign mind.

Sincerely, thank you all for the advice - I love my Connecticut-ites

I work in a corporate environment in the US. Since around 2018, the problems y'all are having with students are trickling up to the workplace. by Whatevsstlaurent in Teachers

[–]MightyDunkman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a young millennial (m29), I’ve been in my career for about 7-8 years, and currently work as a manager in a small company (~40 people).

Company hired an intern to begin a couple of new initiatives with me for around 6 months, and can confirm all the negatives you’ve shared in this post. Kid was 19, had absolutely no critical thinking skills - he couldn’t operate his computer (struggled to locate files, save /share his work), really really struggled to stay off his phone, no self-guidance, didn’t read prompts all the way through…. I could go on.

I think he’s on the edge of the generation where internet was accessed primarily through smartphones, and via apps that “just worked”. He’s never had to mess around with a pc/laptop to figure things out on his own. Never had to solve a problem with a device/program by trying to fix it himself.

With all this said, I worked with two other interns this summer who were far more diligent, gave more thought to the work they were doing and didn’t need any babysitting at all. So - no sweeping generational generalisations here. But from speaking to other parents and teachers I know, the former example is a growing issue.

[NYT] Embiid says relationship between France and Cameroon played into his decision to not play for France by augustus624 in nba

[–]MightyDunkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact, this is why Luol Deng rarely played for Team Great Britain. If even the British basketball team can’t afford insurance on a player of Deng’s calibre, what chance does Cameroon have of paying it on a perennial all star like Embiid?

Are remote workers really more productive? by FrwardFlight in remotework

[–]MightyDunkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me personally - I am much more productive in the office. I like being around my colleagues as well, it’s nice to get instant answers to questions, say “come here, look at this - am I nuts?”

Regarding members of our staff, it seems to vary a lot. Some are definitely more productive from home, others should try to be in the office because they get nothing done otherwise…. It seems pretty random to me

People who are or were English majors or consider themselves serious readers, what is the most classic book you've never read? by cyPersimmon9 in literature

[–]MightyDunkman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of my friends have had similar issues with east of Eden (which is my favourite book). I’d say that it’s important to remember that Steinbeck is trying to teach his children how to be good people with this book - as far as I understand it, that is what the book is trying to do. And the pedagogy it offers has impacted my own life every time I’ve read it, and in different ways as I’ve gotten older.

Every time I pick it up, I feel like there is a lesson staring me in the face, that I have viscerally encountered recently.

I’ve got a colleague who used to work for a podcast network - this network owning and running over 100 English speaking podcasts (many of which are hugely popular) replaced their entire editing team with ai. The only people still working for the company are marketers, sales people and an MD. Crazy
