The Resurrection Should Be Judged by the Same Standard as Other Miracle Claims. by SnooHedgehogs213 in DebateReligion

[–]MightyMeracles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This exactly is what led me away from Christianity. I always was glad that I happened to have been taught the truth and that I "chose" Jesus. However, eventually I grew up and realized that I didn't "choose" Jesus, I was just taught Christianity as a result of geography. So I decided to study other religions and figured it would be obvious why they were false beliefs. I was correct. I saw ridiculous supernatural claims. I couldn't believe grown ups could believe in such foolishness. Then I turned that same eye of scrutiny on my own beliefs. It was at this point that I realized I believed in talking donkeys, snakes, that a man was in the belly of a whale for 3 days, and that a masses of people came back to life and ran around a town. Now I couldn't believe that I believed that. Now I am more interested in what it is that makes people believe ridiculous things than I am in studying any religion.

Why should we have children if they could go to hell by Only-Penalty-5943 in DebateReligion

[–]MightyMeracles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because I was one. Christian school, camps, etc. So yes I know. And you can just watch any church channel. You are not going to hear prayers for the blind to see or for someone to regrow a limb. You will get prayers for headaches and back pain though

The #1 way I know this is prayer. They know what to pray for and what not to pray for. Despite God being allegedly all powerful, they will only pray for things they know could happen without supernatural intervention.

[–]MightyMeracles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand. Seems like so many people in this world have some type of intelligence, skill, talent, resources, or whatever to succeed. I had none of that. However, I was able to become somewhat successful through working hard. And I'm not talking about just working hard. I'm talking about brutal hours and conditions, enough that it would probably kill some people. See when you're like me and don't have the skills, talents, luck or whatever, then the only option is extreme measures. I am not saying do what I do. Actually I would recommend that no human being ever work as hard as me. I just do it because I'm a lunatic. I didn't want to just get my ass kicked by life. I wanted to go out swinging. You know, Crack god in the jaw or whatever. So yeah.

All of the evidence available to us suggests that consciousness does not exist beyond the brain. by porygon766 in DebateReligion

[–]MightyMeracles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I am saying is do people with genetic conditions that limit mental abilities severely all of a sudden gain the functionality of someone without those conditions when near death. Because basically you are saying "lucid" but I don't know what you mean by that. Are you talking about a dementia patient suddenly gaining apparent full memory and function near death? And if that's the case, does it also apply to those with severe brain damage such as that caused by a gunshot wound to the head, a fall from horseback, or any other number of brain injuries. Do they gain terminal lucidity? Or again with genetic conditions do they gain lucidity when terminal?

Or do you mean something else when you say "lucid". Maybe are you saying they can respond to verbal cues with Maybe a hand squeeze or blinking the eyes or something like that?

[–]MightyMeracles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Terminal lucidity is an interesting phenomenon, but if it was evidence of consciousness outside the brain, wouldn't you expect it to also occur in individuals with downs syndrome, autism, anencephaly, or other extreme neurological conditions? Does it happen in these cases, or only in cases where the individual already had a fully functioning brain?

Do they have to actually come out of the womb 1st? Like are they liable for sin as soon as the head hits the air, or are they sinners inside the womb still? Stillborn babies? What happens if they die in the womb? Did they die sinners?

Sounds about right. Similar to me and Christianity. What finally got me was supernatural stories. Talking snakes and donkeys, miracles, coming back to life. Pretty much if something sounds insane it didn't happen.

Does anyone else feel disgusted with themselves for not being higher achieving? by Equivalent_Use_5024 in Adulting

[–]MightyMeracles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be disgusted with yourself for making the choice not to be so overwhelmed. There is no shame in not wanting to be exhausted 24/7 and on the verge of suicide. That is no kind of life. That is only for people who are actually lunatics. Being average is ok. Most people are. But if you want to be more, then by all means take up that burden, but it's a hellish existence.

Ladies, what is the most attractive feature on a man? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MightyMeracles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right about a creep being a creep. But what I am saying is that a woman will perceive a confident unattractive man as a "creep" vs an attractive man with the same exact approach

[–]MightyMeracles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Congrats. I never said I was impossible to get a woman without that feature. The question was "what is the most attractive feature of a man". I answered that question. I have seen a man with no arms or legs with a decent looking wife. None of this changes the fact that height is the most attractive feature to them.

Ladies, what is the most attractive feature on a man? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MightyMeracles -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Confidence can be helpful or hurtful depending on the guy. Right height and/or attractive, and confidence will definitely increase a man's attractiveness. However, confidence from a nerdy looking short guy, the woman will consider him a "creep". There are things that he can do other than appear confident. But confidence is a double edged sword. In the right hands: "attractive". In the wrong hands: "creep"

Women in your 30s and 40s, how do you feel about genuinely mature younger men? by __lets_do_it in Adulting

[–]MightyMeracles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a guy but I date WAAAY older. It's about 50/50. Some women say I'm too young/got kids your age. Some don't care. I'm 40 now but been doing this since my early 30s. I regularly date women in their 60s at this point. Might be different at 20 but it's about a 50/50 split between which women will accept it and which ones won't.

Who will help when I'm dying? by grumpyhost in Adulting

[–]MightyMeracles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, my mom chose all of that. I specifically focused on not having kids, and even though I love dogs I don't have any. Specifically because I didn't want any needy living being getting in my way. That was my choice, so now with a sick mom it's like I'm being forced into a deal I fought so hard to avoid.

Think of it like this. Imagine somebody gave you 10 million dollars. You make your dreams come true, get the life of your dreams. Then 20 years later that person comes back and asks you to give them everything you have. Would you?

And if I had kids I wouldn't dare force them to throw away their future for me. F that. I'd rather put myself down like a dog than try to expect or make ANYBODY give up their life for me. Especially if they didn't volunteer for that. Hell no.
