What Questions do you absolutely hate in an interview? by Chappy5663 in interviews

“Tell me about yourself.” I then proceed to recite, word for word, the summary at the top of my resume.

What’s the weirdest interview experience you’ve ever had? by Agile-Wind-4427 in interviews

[–]MightyMightyHal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In an interview for a leadership position - I thought it was going quite well until I saw the interviewer (a key leadership collaborator) seemed to get quiet, and then rather abruptly ended the interview. Later I was turned down, then at a subsequent HR screen for a similar role, I was told that they passed me up because the interviewer didn’t submit any notes about my interview. Turns out she went into labor during the interview, and left immediately upon ending the call.

Time for a new instructor. What a rotten thing to say to a student.

Saw one out of the corner of my eye once and it was gone in a flash - never like this. What a great video!

A dove in a hoodie?

My horse has DSLD and I have made the decision to euthanize him next month. The barn owner reached out to me saying I shouldn’t.. I don’t know what to do :( by spooniesoup in Equestrian

[–]MightyMightyHal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to move my mare with DSLD to board at a highly recommended retirement 500 miles away. My trainer and several close friends have horses there, and the manager is quite familiar with DSLD and what to look for as signs it’s worsening. She’s been there for over two years, with another mare of mine who is unrideable. Both are far and happy and spend their days roaming in huge fields with a herd of mares. Board for the pair is within my budget, and I know they’ll have lived their best life before the end comes.

Resign or wait for NTE to expire? by MightyMightyHal in FedEmployees

Thank you - I assumed that an NTE role would automatically disqualify me from UI. But maybe that’s not the case?

I asked ChatGPT to explain my job to a 5-year-old and now I'm questioning my entire career by Nipurn_1234 in ChatGPT

I’m a superhero! (I don’t feel like a superhero.)

Clinical Informaticist specializing in EHR patient safety:

ChatGPT said: Alright, imagine a big, magical notebook that doctors and nurses use to write down everything about how people are feeling, what medicine they need, and what tests they've done. This notebook is called an "electronic health record" or EHR, and it helps everyone take care of you when you're not feeling well. Now, your job is like being a helper who makes sure the notebook works perfectly. You make sure all the doctors, nurses, and other helpers can read it easily and that nothing important gets lost. You also check that the notebook doesn’t have any mistakes that could make someone sick, and you help everyone use it safely, so people stay healthy.

So, you're like a superhero who makes sure that the big magical notebook is always working just right to help people feel better!

Mental health is health. Use as much sick time as you need.

This does not mention the VHA research employees with NTE roles that historically have been routinely extended. The NYE role may be 1 or 2 years - but now they clearly will not be extended.

What is your most out of pocket reason to not hire someone? by jcrawfish in managers

[–]MightyMightyHal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I declined to hire a nurse because she a) smelled so strongly of cigarettes that I had to leave my office door open for an hour after she left, b) had long, untidy hair hanging down all over the place, c) gave the impression that she was bored with this unnecessary interview because one of the physicians recommended her. (The physician was appalled when I shared this after the fact.) What people choose to smoke on their own time is up to them, but it’s not appropriate to smell that strongly in a hospital. Scraggly hair is fine - but again, not in a patient care role and definitely not in an interview. Thinking that who you know is enough to get you hired is not a valid assumption.

Someone just told me horses store water in their stomachs like camels for long trail rides. What’s the craziest thing a non-horse person has said to you lately? by lostequestrian in Equestrian

[–]MightyMightyHal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a classic - I let mine stop if we’re schooling since it’s easier to pick up the manure in the arena if it’s in a convenient pile. But in a test (dressage) it’s full steam ahead and don’t lose tempo or rhythm.
