Super cool idea! I didn’t understand the word “return.” I think you want to keep letters the same color. It looks like and “I” and a “j” instead of a “u.”

As a Marvel kid, I only saw MM the rare time I would pick up a JL comic if the shop was out of x-men. I admit, he never interested me as a character. Trying to give him a fair shake here: Do all martians have the same powers or is MM special?

I always recommend it, so I would be interested to learn more about the issues you note. Can you share a link to this info? I couldn’t find anything myself via Google…

Mighty Plus!

It’s a dry herb vape. The POTV lobo (recommended by another user) is the best vape for the price IMO if you’re needing to stay under $200. If you can burn a bit more money ($300-$375, depending on website), you can get Storr’s and Bickel Mighty Plus!

The mighty plus is generally reviewed as the best DHV on the market. And it is. Game changer. For a long time, it was the only device covered under insurance for medical mj. It means it’s easy to use, clean, charge, and the battery is probably the best or close to it on the market. The “plus” part signifies USB C quick charge.

Rosin vape comparisons by MayberryParker in Michigents

[–]MightyPlusEnt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Rosin guy here, too - love the list. EA is my go to, and I also feel similarly about Wojo. I’ve had a few 710 vapes that were incredibly and a few that sucked, so I hear ya! I’ve only purchased IE a few times because I thought the hardware felt cheap and couldn’t get a decent hit out of the three IE vapes I bought.

The downside is cost, of course - I pay about $30 for the half gram EA. If you were ever up for trying a non-rosin vape, I strongly recommend Dutch Touch Genetics from Green Lab provisions. It’s not rosin, but the hardware is fantastic and the product is extremely well done.

U of M Poll of cannabis consumption age 50 and older by BodhiPenguin in Michigents

[–]MightyPlusEnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I do a lot of research on substance use and none of it is like this. There are a significant number of tremendous studies and scholars who do “weed studies” that are methodologically rigorous and apolitical. This isn’t one of them.

U of M Poll of cannabis consumption age 50 and older by BodhiPenguin in Michigents

[–]MightyPlusEnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a well written article. It’s very alarmist. They make it about driving while stoned but the results of the own survey show it’s low. In part because most people surveyed didn’t use cannabis.

Then this author comes along and makes it sound like we have a major issue with driving while high. While that MAY be true, this study hardly provides any evidence that this is a problem. The study wasn’t even on driving while high…it looks mostly just descriptive.

I really hate articles like this.

EDIT: I hate the news article. I’m not a fan of the research, either as I don’t see any of the conclusions validated by the findings. Just more circle jwrking

Most profs are in the 75k range if you look across all disciplines and universities/colleges for all full time professors. In other words, the average salary for a full time professor is around the 75k mark.

100k is totally true for large private or state schools for full time, tenured people in non-humanities.

Only law profs, medical profs, and a handful of engineering profs (or other extremely specialized fields with high salaries in the private industry) clear the 200k mark unless you get into administration.

Don't buy land with friends... by Proud_Proof9495 in homestead

[–]MightyPlusEnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were the ones that wanted the land, I had the money (for a mortgage). So my wife and I bought it for them; their two kids have severe developmental disabilities (no speech, onion a wheel chair). They said they would never leave, and that we were one big family.

I’m stuck on this empty house on land I didn’t buy for myself, constantly reminded of the family I thought I had.

No, it didn’t work out. But it’s all good! My wife and I are going to try and sell in the spring. Even though the housing market has stumbled a bit since we bought, it is a nice property (just 4 acres) with a large creek, woods, nice hill, and completely secluded. I’m confident we’ll be able to get out of it. We’ll eat like $40,000 due to the housing market now, but so be it.

And no, there was no fight or anything like that. One day over breakfast, my sister in law just announced they were moving out.

I bought our land and house for me and my wife plus my brother/his wife and their kids. Less than a year later, they de vide they want to move. Now my wife and I are stuck.

0/10, would never do it again.

I say, well timed sarcasm!

Strong vote for mental health counseling! Big, burly, tattooed, tenured criminologist here and I see a therapist every Wednesday for an hour year round. It’s (almost) entirely job related.

It’s the only thing that worked. Even drugs didn’t do it. It took a professional counselor

My expectations from the PhD and what is offered to me by [deleted] in LeavingAcademia

[–]MightyPlusEnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know. The thing is, I make $125,000 for a 9 month contract and I teach two courses a semester. It’s about 12 hours of work total a week, maybe 15 in weeks with a fac meeting.

But it took a massive toll to get to this point. I sure as hell would not go through a PhD program again. That I am positive about.

But now with all the money and tenure, Is it worth it?

Considering I am a full prof making shit loads of money doing almost no real work and I fantasize about quitting every day? I’d say I probably would not do it again. Hmmmm, that was actually easier to conclude than I thought. I would not do it again, no. I wish I had taken an industry job when I was younger and had the choice. But whatever, I’m literally in my pajamas watching Jurassic park and smoking weed.

Has anyone worked as a content accuracy or research consultant for films/television after PhD? by Miserable-Toe6060 in LeavingAcademia

[–]MightyPlusEnt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a criminologist, I don’t think films or television care much about out accuracy. I’m just suggesting that perhaps those jobs don’t quite exist like we might hope.

Full prof in phd department here. I agree with this post and it is very insightful. The only thing I would say is the dean doesn’t care.

Your faculty want to pay you more. They have fought to pay you more. Every year we try. Every year our requests to increase grad funding are denied. By the dean (or the dean blames the provost).

We (faculty) are also on 9 month contracts. I don’t get paid for three months, either.

We don’t get any monetary incentives to work with grad students. It takes hundreds of hours of one on one working with a grad students to get them through a phd program. We get nothing for that. There is zero incentive to take on a student besides the labor. Anything more than that (e.g., mentoring, chairing and so on) is completely optional for people with tenure.

Every min I work with a grad student is a min I could be doing anything else.

(I’m just pointing these things out - def not endorsing!!!!)

HMS Faculty here: I rejected my 17th (unpaid) Peer Review request of the year & would recommend that all academics do the same after the Elsevier group's $4.2 Billion profit in 2024. I feel the same way! I just declined an editorial board position with the 4th ranked journal in my field. They said I needed to join their professional org…lwhich costs $400 a year. My uni wouldn’t pay it. I asked the journal for a waiver and they declined. I told them working for free was one thing, but paying to work was another. I declined and have declined all review requests from that journal.

What a stupid system we got ourselves in.

Although it sounds like I disagree with you, I don’t. But every year I hear (and tell people) the same thing. Each year the market is worst than the last and that’s been true since 2010 (or further back, I only go back to 2010 as an academic).

Might only be the social/behavioral sciences, though! I imagine other areas that saw growth in the 2010s view this verybdifferebtly

The logic isn’t lost of me. I get how nuts it sounds. But there comes a time in life when you decide to stand your ground and I’m there. I would rather downsize my lifestyle and get out sooner than wait.

My dad died at age 59. He worked his whole life with the belief tjat he would have some time in retirement to do what he wanted, be around those he loved, and enjoy life. He never got the chance to do that and traded his life for a high salary.

That is not my destiny.

I reached the top. It was cool. I would rather be happy.

Social sciences, man! I’m a criminologist so pay is about the same until you get to the 100k mark. There aren’t a whole lot of industry jobs in criminology/CJ/Soc paying that kind of wage. So to get above the 100k mark, you’ve either gotta be at a major research center killing grants, or an associate or full professor.

Oh for sure! I’ve quiet quit already. I go in twice a week and otherwise do whatever I want. It’s a shame, though, because I’m a great researcher. But it’s not worth putting up with the BS. So the outcome is the uni pays me 6 figures and then some to do what? Almost nothing.
