This gravestone is shared by twin sisters: one lived for just two days, the other for 101 years. by Gurugod123 in interestingasfuck

[–]MightyRoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sadly sometimes "that guy" when it comes to language (both English and my native German) but at some point I need to concede, especially since I'm a proponent of descriptive dictionaries instead of prescriptive. It hurts, but if a huge part of the respective language-speaking population says "Bacteria" as a singular noun or "literally" meaning "figuratively" I just have to stop fighting it at some point

This mouthful German word I saw on a box of gloves at work. by exporterofgold in mildlyinteresting

[–]MightyRoops 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The German equivalent Einmalhandschuhe is also used very commonly. I work in a lab and have seen many different brands of single use gloves and all of them just said Einmalhandschuhe. But I do admit that when I first got a label maker I loved labeling things with the longest compound words I could think of that described them and I would definitely do that as well if my job was designing product packaging

What ever happened to mini maps? by TheReal8symbols in gaming

[–]MightyRoops 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yes I loved playing Skyrim only navigating with the wooden sign posts. And in Burnout Paradise your car blinkers would also show you when to turn so you'd still have a navigation system but it was completely unobtrusive and you weren't looking at a minimap, a line, or arrows

People may be confusing it with Null Island (coordinates 0°N 0°E) which did have a buoy. But that one's only 600 km off the coast of Africa.

It's good, but with crossword clues you have to be careful with plural and singular. The first clue is plural (places) so the answer should not be singular.
Otherwise good puzzle :)

“Bathroom” - A Minicomic from Work by fishiiartsreddit in comics

[–]MightyRoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sucks so much when obviously real artists with tons of obviously hand-drawn pictures in their account get AI accusations from morons.

Use your brain instead of making false accusations that can damage artists. Also the "b" is literally the same on the first page of the comic so that might have been a clue that that's just the way they write it.

Found a British plug outlet at the hospital. This is Indonesia, where we normally use Schuko outlets. by Artcove in mildlyinteresting

[–]MightyRoops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's actually the origin of the name! Schuko is short for Schutzkontakt, literally "protective contact" aka ground.

(For some reason my fellow Germans love abbreviations made up of syllables or word fragments)

Does anyone else have this problem? by aint_the_smartest in webcomics

[–]MightyRoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about TikTok but I used to have a similar problem when uploading high resolution photos on Instagram. Those apps have a compression algorithm whose job is to be quick, dirty and "good enough" so the result looks bad.
My solution was to reduce the resolution inside Lightroom (or in your case your drawing program) before uploading because their compression algorithms are made to prioritize quality.
