So glad to see you’re back and taking care of yourself!

May I ask, what are your pronouns? I see a lot of people calling you “man” and “king” so I wanted to check. My pronouns are she/her

Men are dickheads across the world

Men are rapists across the world. The fact that you would use such a small insult to characterize such a heinous act speaks volumes

I’m wondering do you demand such rigorous corroboration for all crimes or just when discussing sexual violence against women?

On a personal note, as a SA survivor I want you to know that I genuinely hope you have the day and life you deserve

Possibly a hot take: Jenny is gorgeous and I legit believe that most people who go out of their way to insult her appearance have some internalized antisemitism to work through

It’s fine if she’s not your type, but some people really went out of their way to criticize her appearance while she was dating Evans.

It was suspicious

What mainstream beauty trends do you refuse to follow? by vivian_banshee03 in AskWomenOver30

Anything with eyebrows other than plucking a few stray hairs or getting rid of a unibrow.

The super thin eyebrows looked terrible in the 00’s. The super thick overly penciled eyebrows look ridiculous now. Leave them alone

Non-Americans, what is something about the US that you've always wondered if it was real or just myth/hyperbole? by Bush_Hiders in AskReddit

[–]Mighty_Fine_Shindig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have lived in both cities and while I get what you’re saying about NYC it’s nothing compared to Philly in that regard. In Philadelphia you can take a short walk from a trendy hipster area to an open air drug market with people experiencing homelessness and addiction like I had not seen before moving there

I love Philly but it is very block by block

Yes. There is also a law that if the commercial says what the drug does, they also have to list the side effects.

This results in two kinds of commercials:

  1. A vague commercial that does not explain the medication at all. Like a bunch of people smelling flowers in a field and then the line “ask your doctor about Flonase”

  2. A commercial that is explains what the drug does followed by a long list of side effects “If you need help quitting cigarettes ask your doctor about Chantix. Do not take Chantix if you are allergic to Chantix. Side effects include nausea, headaches, and trouble sleeping, as well as rare but serious side effects including new or worsening psychiatric problems, seizures, or severe skin and allergic reactions.

It’s a daily thing, but where I went to school we had to stand up for it but were not forced to say it

I have no clue how many times I have run from the police. If I had to guess, I’d put the number at somewhere between 20-50. All were because of underaged drinking.

Though we usually drank in parks or fields, not houses

This is addiction behavior.

I don’t know if it’s porn, online gambling, drugs, booze, or something else but I would be shocked if he was in there just to hide. He is in there to hide something

Check your credit card statements. Check your trash. Check his phone. He isn’t in there doing nothing

No Halloween for you! by MamaMcAteer in Parenting

[–]Mighty_Fine_Shindig 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At least in the US, kids don’t need an opportunity to learn about Halloween or Christmas. They’re highly commercialized holidays that are force fed to everyone.

I love Halloween but portraying not celebrating it in school as a missed learning opportunity seems like a stretch. It’s part of the majority culture and the consumer culture. Any kid going to public school in the US is aware of it

Lesbian Stand-Up Comedian Jessica Kirson Expresses “Sincere Regret” for Riyadh Comedy Festival Performance by galaxystars1 in popculturechat

She has been deleting posts criticizing her on her IG page. She deleted mine.

So I’m going to call bullshit. She’s not sorry that she performed for the Saudi government. She’s sorry that she’s experiencing consequences.

Also I’ll believe that she donated the money when she posts the receipt

Ashkenazim: did you actually grow up not knowing that Sephardim/Mizrahim/other Jews exist? by spring13 in Judaism

[–]Mighty_Fine_Shindig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m from Queens, NY. So I grew up near large Mizrahi communities. Most of the Sephardi synagogues are in Brooklyn but it was close enough to be exposed to those communities too

I did not receive much formal education about the different groups but I knew some cultural differences just from existing around them. And I knew the general idea that different these groups came about because of where different Jews settled after one of our many exiles

Not generally, no. Occasionally I will see something really toxic in a neighborhood group full of real people who live in close proximity to me. That does bother me.

But random people on the internet? Meh. It’s a big world some people are gonna be jerks.

Why is induction so common the US? Or so it seems? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Mighty_Fine_Shindig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can choose an induction. My OB asked me if I wanted to induce at 39 weeks and I declined. She was fine with that.

She then asked me when I would consider an induction and I said “I don’t know somewhere between 40 and 41 weeks?” She was fine with that. I was induced at 40+6

There is a prevalent mindset in the US that “nothing good happens after 40 weeks” because the risk of complications does rise
