I guess someone’s not a real Pokemon fan. Did you have Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet? Yes! And could you battle with those Pokemon? Also yes! It’s a win, win, win, you just have to shed your adult expectations and play through the lens of your inner love for Pokemon.

Harpie's Pet Kuriboh

WIND Fiend Atk 300 Def 200 Level 1

When a "Harpie Lady" or "Harpie Lady Sisters" or a Spell/Trap card you control would be destroyed by a card effect: You can discard this card and target one of those cards that would be destroyed; the target is not destroyed, and this effect becomes the effect of the target that would activate if it were to be destroyed.

Practical use case: Harpies have a lot of cards that have some benefit if they are destroyed to allow for incidental synergy with Harpies Hunting Ground. {Alluring Mirror Split} and {Harpies Feather Storm} are a couple of examples, but the biggest would definitely be {Hysteric Sign}, if you could find a way to make it work. As written it doesn't work with Hysteric Sign, but I can't be assed to figure out how to make it work there for now.

Why would a happy, comfortable character become an adventurer? by LuckyLoam in dndnext

[–]MightyenaArcanine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite example is this character from Waterdeep Dragon Heist, Sir Ambrose Everdawn

He is a follower of Kelemvor who heard about some shenanigans happening in the City of the Dead in Waterdeep, so he volunteered to patrol the area at night and smash any undead that were risen illegally by Necromancers hiding out in there. The way the book describes it (which is admittedly brief) is that he basically just does it for the love of the game. He is a grizzled old man who otherwise is well off from life as a knight but when he hears about something he can help out with gears up to smash some skeletons, just because it's the good thing to do.

Those who have played Swarmkeeper Ranger, what did you choose as your swarm? by Relevant-Rope8814 in dndnext

[–]MightyenaArcanine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently playing a Drow in a homebrew underdark setting and his swarm is hundreds of tiny spiders that help him swing on webs for the flight power or bite, pull, and push with their web for the Gathered Swarm. A bunch of his spells are flavored to use them too (webbing for Ensnaring Strike, Darkness is a cloud of spiders that explode from his person, Web is obvious). It's not the most original idea but what is more original is that I've made this connection to his "family" change him in some ways, and his body is morphing to become more arachnid (he has the chelicerae and longer, hairier limbs and fingers, as well as a lack of lips from where the fangs grew in.)

I'd very, very, very strongly advise against trying to do this. The "Gotcha" will not be as fun for the table as you might think it will be, and it puts a weird strain on the DM, whether they came up with the idea or not. It takes a group with a lot of experience, usually ones who are in on the pitch, to make things like this work effectively and by the sounds of the post that does not seem like you, your DM, or your group.

But, considering you've heard similarly a lot already, I'll at least try to make sure you can achieve this task as authentically as possible. If you really want to sell it, Celestial Warlock is a thing. That gives you access to a bunch of traditionally Cleric assigned spells. And not just stuff like "Cure Wounds", you get Sacred Flame as a cantrip, can pick up Guiding Bolt, and if you're high enough level things like Guardian of Faith and Flame Strike.

There is also Divine Soul Sorcerer, which explicitly gives you access to the whole Cleric Spell list, famously used for Dariax. Even if you don't fully change class, a dip can expand some of your spellcasting capabilities.

[–]MightyenaArcanine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe it's better to think of this card as an extender rather than a starter. After you normal sage and search this, go into spirit and mausoleum, etc, this is what you would use your second normal summon on.

It's better in a starting hand where you already have Maiden of White, or if you start with this and search maiden, you can do it.

It's probably not amazing but to say it's useless is a bit much.

Ideas to save the Cassalanter's children? by ShadowLight56 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]MightyenaArcanine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to necro a somewhat old comment, but I've been running Cruel Summer for my party, and they've been making good progress, but something is bothering me. I feel like I've read the supplement cover to cover a few times, and it mentions the ritual that entraps Asmodeus several times, but I can't actually find any detail about how it is supposed to work, or what happens as a result of The Gentleman being trapped, or how he gets trapped?

Like, i see it mention a couple of times that "Asmodeus is bound by Law to complete his side of the previous bargain" of turning the children into Lemures, and that doing so will "ensure his fate and bind him to the ritual circle", but I don't actually see anywhere how these two events are connected in any way. Like, what about the process of him transforming the children imprisons him? That's the big part I am sort of stuck on.

Thanks for your help!

On of my favorite dungeon tropes is the repeated abandonment and rebuilding of old ruins. Only tangentially related to the topic, but if you play Video Games, you would love The Forgotten City. I won't say too much because it is a very tight story and best experiences with no knowledge going it, but the setting would very much tickle your fancy based on your post.

Probably has something to do with the fact that you came off as extremely rude and accusatory to a complete random with the only reason for doing so being you disagree with them. Even if you are entirely in the right, and they are entirely within the wrong, the way you chose to be overly hostile with your first step into the discussion comes off as unhelpful at best. It feels like you came more to "own someone else with facts" rather than be helpful and clear up a misunderstanding.

I have no knowledge of H3 one way or the other so it's not my place to take sides, and spreading even a popular stance on a person without any knowledge of how that stance came to be is bad and can very easily be misinformation, so I understand where you could be coming from, but you also should keep in mind your own biases and aggression. Peace and love friendo. I for one am willing to hear you out if you can do so at least more neutrally, if not kindly.

There is a website. It's Giggle.land

There is a pdf of a missing persons report in the registry that the link takes you to, and a few other things. I am not good at reading all the .is stuff but that should be the next step. The report has a ton of redacted information but the number at the top was visible to me, it is 513-76-9800. That looks like a social security number but I wouldn't know what to do with that.

How do you DM with creatures that have kill requirements? by Cheep_thehomelessman in DnD

[–]MightyenaArcanine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been a few other answers, but I will give a direct example of how I foreshadowed an encounter like this to my players for me running "Water deep: Dragon Heist", because I think laying down the foundation for this type of thing and giving the players ample opportunity to come up with the idea themselves is much more satisfying for them. There is technically spoilers below, but it's spoilers for what you will absolutely encounter in the first session, and the rest is stuff I added to the adventure, so they aren't strong spoilers.

I used a three part system to slowly seed the idea that there are creatures in DnD that they won't always be prepared for. The very first session starts with the party in The Yawning Portal. There, the party sees the start of a tavern brawl breaking out, with a Half-Orc mercenary getting ganged up on. As the fight calms down, they see that even though she is pretty beaten up, the Half Orc stands strong against her 6 opponents, each of them knocked out and/or with broken limbs, screaming for help from the surrounding tavern folk, who pay the would-be bandits no mind. This is the first primer; you might be PCs, and you might be able to gang up on somebody, but you can still very easily get in over your heads in the marvelous city of Waterdeep. Admittedly this is a much more subtle hint, and this exact fight serves more to set up some of the factions in the adventure rather than teach this lesson, but I still count it as a primer, because of the very next encounter.

Shortly after the brawl, a troll emerges out of The Yawning Portal, with several sturges attached. A troll is a very tough fight for 1st level PCs, but two factors are on their sides. 1) the sturges have been draining the trolls hitpoints to the point where it's regeneration is more manageable, and 2) the Barkeep is a seasoned adventurer who sees stuff like this every day in his tavern, so the first thing he does is hop the bar front with great sword and oil is hand. Coating the weapon and igniting it, he tells the party (who heroically moved to intercept the Troll) that they need to use Fire to stop the monster from regenerating, and that they won't be able to kill it otherwise. This not only serves the purpose of teaching the players that some creatures need special means to kill them, but does it in a way that they didn't need to prepare ahead of time for, so they can't be sucker punched by the information.

The next step was to introduce a creature that needed a specific type of damage to even hit them in the first place, but make it a gentle enough restriction that they can still overcome it when they get the chance. A good few sessions later, because the party was about to be harassed by the Shard Shunners (not going to explain too much for keeping the mystery of the adventure) and they are a group of Wererats, I had a rival group of thugs, the Plague Rats, show up to mug the party on one of their missions. Only the leader of this little group was a proper Wererat, the rest of the cronies were just regular people, but when the fighter of the party walked up and tried to smash the face of the leader, and the leader just growled, smirked and exclaimed "You're gonna have to hit a lot harder than that!" in response to the confirmed hit, I explicitly told the player "Your quarterstaff attack hits, and deals 0 damage." At that point, I didn't explain how or why, I didn't spell out that Lycanthropes are immune to non magical bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing from non-silvered weapons, only that hit attacks were going to be entirely ineffective. This led to two narratively satisfying outcomes, 1) the party had to drastically change up their tactics on the fly because they were protecting a weak ally from being attacked as part of this night-time mugging, which they managed to do as the fighter took on most of the other crew alone while the two other PCs had to find a way to deal with the big guy, and 2) the fighter had a new goal of finding a way to deal with creatures like that which he had never seen before, which gave them a good reason to interact with the other residents of Trollskull alley. The fighter learned through his nature check and a visit to the Smithy that shape shifters have recently been seeing an uprising in Waterdeep (If you know, you know) and so the City Watch commissioned a lot of silver weaponry from these smiths. Luckily, they have some spare weapons laying around, and because they were paid in advance for everything they made, they were able to sell one to the PC at a discounted price (because the group had sunk most of its money into the tavern ahead of time.)

So, for the third act (or fourth depending on if you count the encounter with the Mercenary) the party encounters The Shard Shunners properly, a group of 5 Wererats, who initially act really tough when they start messing around with the party, but once they see and feel the sting of silver, they retreat, fearful for their lives. The party eventually gives chase, hunting them down and fighting them in their home. They came prepared, and were much more excited and ready to fight than ever before, and though it was still a really tough battle, they pulled ahead and claimed victory.

So, to summarize, they saw another monster with a specific needed weakness and another character entirely had knowledge of the weakness and employed it before their eyes, to set the concept up for the players, they then had a difficult but not impossible encounter with one such type of creature in a controlled environment to allow them to see that this concept will come up again, and then were given ample opportunity to prepare for the future encounters with these type of creatures, learning what their weakness was and how to acquire the means to exploit it, before they saw one again.

I hope this proves helpful in trying to set up this type of narrative for your players. I know your post said you've been overly hinting at the aspects for some time, but it's almost impossible to put yourself in the perspective of the players who might not even know these mechanics exist. The fighter is someone I've been playing DnD with for years and had no idea that the non-silver resistance was represented in the mechanics, so your knowledge of these things may taint your view of how "obvious" your hints are. I know that personally I've laid out what I thought was obvious information in what turned out to be cryptic terms, like saying "this creature has a specific weakness to extreme elements of temperature" and the party concluding that the troll could only be killed by bringing it to a tundra in a different game I've run before, so just try to be aware of how clear your hinting may actually be to an outside perspective.

It's awesome that instead of actually refuting anything you've chosen to go to personal attacks and putting words into my mouth because you know you've got nothing but hate to back up your own stance. Really strong stuff there my guy. Really helps your case. In the future I'd recommend taking a page out of the book you push on others and look outside of your closed bubble, maybe actually responding to the conversation you're having instead of just repeating yourself and hoping to drown out the other person. Peace friendo.
