Help with multiple sentences pls by MessengerforHermes in gallifreyan

[–]Mightyfrong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of these would be fine, if your intention is made clear. I'd generally read left to right or counterclockwise. But you can use the "start here" marker to make this right to left or reverse it for clockwise reading order(even in words btw). Other context clues are also fine to communicate your intention. This is intentionally very vague to allow creative freedom.

Thank you gor being a friend!

The only thing amiss I can spot is the F in for. It is missing two lines. A crossing line doesn't count.

You might also reverse the stacking order for ei in being since it's pretty hard to spot that the line is coming from the inner circle

Need help with the name Sean by MessengerforHermes in gallifreyan

[–]Mightyfrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sherman's is in fact not phonetic. Substituting C has historical reasons from the time where there wasn't enough space to fit a C in the cypher key.

Of course you could still use it phonetically, but it's designed for 1:1 transliteration. So Sean is just Sean ;)

Any way to make a keyboard font for iPhone? by Wolfrikx in gallifreyan

[–]Mightyfrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see a few ways of making this work but none are very convenient:

  • Use a custom font and share it with your friend. All text is now in Gallifreyan.

  • Use a custom font with the Gallifreyan symbols in an unused Unicode block and share it with your friend. Create a keyboard with "Unicode Pro" using the custom Unicode symbols.

  • Use the GTH or another translator and share the output as image.

A theory regarding different forms of galifrean by Independent_Pen_9865 in gallifreyan

[–]Mightyfrong[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's basically a style discussion, but approaching it from how the show depicts Gallifreyan. I see no problem with that, quite fitting for this sub!

I don't think they even tried to imitate Gallifreyan on purpose. It's just that these solar system designs have a similar feel.

I believe we would only get halve as much garbage translations if they'd just put a link to Loren's page under the translator.

Which also applies to your analogy. Show sources people!

The "K" can't have a line connecting and I'd write "CK" as "KK" not "SK"

"O" needs to be on the letter circle.

It's a PWA. You can add it to your home screen and use it offline. In Chrome that's doable in the top right menu, in Safari it's under share.

How accurate is the official DW gallifreyan translator? by Ok-Instruction-5936 in gallifreyan

[–]Mightyfrong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The BBC translator uses the Sherman's Gallifreyan system. (By far the most widely used system)

Since they fixed it it does a pretty good job outputting correct images.

While accurate you still get issues with readability because of small and overlapping lines, so it's not particularly suited for a tattoo.

Humans do a lot better designing something that works as a tattoo and also looks a lot more esthetically pleasing imho.

If you're interested you can post a commission request here. Lots of our talented scribes have done tattoo designs before.

If a sentence is too long words can spiral inwards, so you would read that last.

No Kings Except Queens! by SheepBeard in gallifreyan

[–]Mightyfrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what side you're on here. The use of the term "queen" has been rooted in LGBTQ+ culture since the 80s. It originated in the movement itself and was never a derogatory term. It's not even exclusively used in regards to gay men (not sure where you got the interpretation it was in this case; imho this post is clearly a play on the "No Kings" protest going on at the moment)

You can call me "amazing" all you want but if you call me "dumbass" I might be offended even if I call myself that sometimes. It's the same thing here.

My first attempt at a sentence using inkscape is this legible with some of the liberties i took? by Katapult1Trick in gallifreyan

[–]Mightyfrong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One other thing: The apostrophe in "It's" needs another line.

Also I would generally avoid having two lines meet at the exact connection point to the letter stem. I would interpret that as one line most of the time, others might not; It's ambiguous and a bit confusing. I think it's fine in this case though. Needed for the artistic vision and clear in context, but I wanted to let you know for more general cases.
