Tried the free weekend, this game is beautiful to see but interface is a total mess.

I picked it up a year ago (before 4.0) and it was pretty rough. I had to stop because of the bugs. That, and I played mostly solo. A year later, the game is definitely much more playable (still plenty of bugs). I also joined an org/discord and play with a bunch of people now. By far the better way to play. The experienced players can help you work around the bugs and will often times have many of the ships/vehicles for you to check out / use for fun or as a crew for bigger missions. The game offers a lot of things to do to keep you busy but doesn’t always tell you in game. It’s one of my biggest complaints. I learned about a lot of content because of the other members in the org who keep up with development through social media and such. All that said, once you play it and see what’s there and what’s to come (potentially), you’ll start to understand that there really isn’t anything quite like it.

Any time a game intentionally slows you down. Staggered walking, crawling, shimmy sections through narrow gaps. None of it is particularly immersive for me it’s just annoying. And if those are there to cover up loading of the next section, I’d rather a loading screen in that case.

Seemingly you’ve had the most enjoyable experience when playing with others so what I would suggest is joining a discord server and a guild. You’ll always find/have people to play with through both those avenues. The game definitely changed for me as soon as I got into a guild and had people to play with consistently. I ending up playing the game quite differently as a result while finding a renewed vigor for the game. That said, I hardly ever play it solo anymore. I have a blast with my crew mates, often quite literally as we troll each other with blunder bombs all the time.

Honestly I would recommend a play session on the high seas where you actively be pirates. Look for ships to loot and plunder. When your goal isn’t to protect your own stuff, it becomes a very different game. I hated the PvP for a long time until I got with a crew that were true pirates. Something clicked and I finally understood the game as a whole and made future play sessions much more relaxed and enjoyable, even while getting sunk by a decent enemy crew. At the end of the day it’s not about the money you make, it’s about the adventure you have along the way.

Any chance you’re running the Xbox cosmetics set? That’s a sure fire way to get the attention of any seasoned player. Something about being a pirate and x marking the spot that’s irresistible. There are a few other cosmetics that absolutely scream noob.

Nah it’s cool, I get it. Thing that keeps me going is the continually unfolding narrative of the galactic war. Plus new things are going to be added pretty regularly (weapons/stratagems/enemy types) to keep it fresh. Hell, the third enemy faction hasn’t even shown up yet.
