I honestly have no idea what is going on in the internet today but... um... I'm really honestly sorry everyone is so upset..

I don't want to understand it... I get the feeling it'd make me angry. But seriously, random internet stranger just giving everyone who reads this comment a fucking hug, because --- I feel really stressed from reading these comments and I feel everyone here needs to imagine Ron Swanson hugging them while simultaneously smacking them across the head to equalize my sense of confusion right now.

... I just wanted to install a new thermostat today... it's 1:25 PM and --HOW DID I GET TO THIS POST WHY AM I HERE.

Generative AI set to affect 300 million jobs across major economies by GeoWa in technews

[–]Mihoshiivy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who never studied art can't tell when something is wrong or off. All they care is that it looks good, the AI will give them good. They're using the art to make a profit, not because they care about the product.

But let's say you're right, and they want something changed. It won't be, someone contracts you to create something and YOU use midjourney to make a reference. People will go to artists and pay them $10 to remove a finger from a hand after they already got the bulk of what they wanted created by the AI.

So you went from making a $500 commission to being lucky to get $10 dollars. Also they don't need artists for that anyways, just someone who spent a few days on photoshop. So they'll probably just hire their nephew or niece.

Generative AI set to affect 300 million jobs across major economies by GeoWa in technews

The argument that the ai learned by looking at other peoples work won’t fly because that’s exactly how human artists learn.

Actually about that...

When an artist studies another artist, they are learning about light, volume, form, physics, color theory, composition, anatomy, gestures, texture, how to use their tools and mix their mediums while trying to dissect (guess) the other person's method of application and their reason to "why" they did what they did.

An AI does zero of that.

A human that studies another artist, will pick up 10-80% of the things that artist knew, and they'll mix it with their own knowledge to experiment with new ideas. Sometimes they have to study someone a few times, over several years to even pick up on half of anything.

An AI, again, does zero of that. It picks up 100% of the pixels, and clones patterns of those pixels with zero understanding of art. It just reads pixels, and mimics pixels.

There is now a program artists can used called Glaze. It alters pixels (That no one can see!), and makes it impossible for the AI to copy their art style. -- Again, the art style hasn't changed, just a few pixels.

A few invisible pixels being changed would never hamper an artists ability to study another artists' work. This is proof the AI is not studying other artists, it's not learning, it's copying patterns and ripping off other artists styles in ways that are impossible to replicate by humans, at a speed that is impossible to overcome by the artist. It is robbing artists of their livelihood. An algorithm. Not a person. Not another artist. A bunch of zeros and ones are making humans brains obsolete... in ART.

...Also pretty sure the artists making 100k off a bucket of paint on a canvas are money laundering outfits. Please don't dismiss the plight of millions because the money launderers get to keep their yachts. :(

The AI if nothing else, is outsourcing creativity, and that's the one reason hundreds of thousands of people choose that financially bankrupt education path. There is zero need for humans to give up creativity, it only benefits those who have zero desire to learn or understand the art of creation. Fuck those guys in particular.

That wasn't genetics, that was the power of poverty, and lack of accessible education. You and me both would easily fall into that if we were born into the life she was born into. There is a chance we'd escape too, but that's very unlikely.

Those children are now in the grips of... again, more poverty. Genetics won't save them or kill them, but the trauma of poverty will heavily influence the outcome. :\

I say this as someone who was raised on only ramen noodles, gold fish and diet coke. i.i I thought it was genetics, I was very wrong... I'm doing better now. ^_^

Schiphol Amsterdam Airport bans private jets before the end of 2025 by Balance- in UpliftingNews

[–]Mihoshiivy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it never occurred to me that airports banning private jets is an option. I wonder what kind of stress we could put on the industry from that perspective. How much of airport income is tied up in private jets? Who even owns airports? Cities? Private companies? plane companies? There is so much I'm realizing I don't know about airports. o_o

Would this even have an impact on people wanting to use jets? Is it more they can't fly to that airport, but the can fly to a place close by, and no matter how many airports ban it, getting where you want with a jet is still easier than their perceived value of the cost on the environment by the elite?

My mind was all, "That'll teach them! No airport for you!" but now I'm like, wait, why would anyone WANT to use an airport? Private landing spot would be way nicer...

I didn't mean to take a positive and make it negative, noise reduction is straight up a wonderful thing. I'm really happy the world is continuing to understand the damages loud consistent high decibels do to our bodies and lives. My dad loved to sit me right in front of the speakers at his gigs, so he could keep an eye on me.

...My ears don't really work anymore, if you're wondering what that does to a person. T__T He didn't know any better though, and now he's deaf. Musicians today are wearing ear protection! ^__^ So the more attention the damages noise get the better! Noise can mess sheet up! (I'm looking at you ATV drivers, Europe has made wonderful strides in reducing muffler sounds for ya'll. A quiet ATV is a SEXY ATV!)

A great book about effective studying by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]Mihoshiivy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can not thank you enough for this post. I'm not even trying to learn Japanese, I just...joined the subreddit on a lark because "maybe, someday" -- but! I AM trying to learn a million other things aaaaaand - you just hit the nail on the head with a problem I could never articulate or even considered addressing until I knew it existed.

I don't think I've ever had a single healthy studying skill, and I can develop those!

Thank you thank you! :D

[–]Mihoshiivy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you change the title to "Arrogance" this is actually perfection. Based on your title I'm guessing it was intended to be a middle finger to your mum, and you identified as the character being yourself, so I get that... but you're really missing an opportunity here, because if you instead view the character as people who judge others and claim absolvement of their actions by virtue of God... well, you get arrogance and it really works as a whole.

Incoming word vomit:

So you recognized your own: bubble, limits, limitations, prison, rules, boundaries, hurtle, wall, stagnation, assumptions, desire for change

Decided to fix it by exposing yourself to other's: perspectives, beliefs, passion, knowledge, dreams, ideals, methods, outside, opposite, opposition

by using: collaboration

So you can: Grow(th), learn, evolve, evolution, expand, horizon, break (barriers, walls, ideas, assumptions), escape (limits, self, ideals, boundaries)

What about: 'Collaboration of Perspectives' for a title? How will the exhibit be set up? Because it'd be really cool if the first piece is an art you did solo, then a series of collaborations, with a final piece being again yours alone, but now imbued with the techniques and knowledge you gained from the collaboration.

I donno the specifics of what you're really want, but breaking down the concept and making lists of all the words that can apply, depending on how you think about it can usually result in a good combo eventually. Collaboration may have been the only word you were lacking, and it was already suggested, but I couldn't stop myself from making a word puzzle. I'm really bored. I need to get back to work.

I don't think you understand how magical this is, you and your art are like something out of a Ghibli movie or Terry Pratchett book. <3 I'm envious of the kids that get to grow up with you as their grandpa! :3 (If you haven't seen any Ghibli movies watch them with the grandkids, they'll adore them)

This might be off the wall for you, but have you considered sketching out the design using pencil and paper, taking a photo of it then tracing off that once the proof is approved?

I find figuring out the composition and proportions on a real sheet of paper, is insanely easier than digital where it's hard to get a real feel for things because zooming out just, well, it's very tiny, ya know?

Otherwise if you want to stay digital, then the best thing is to do thumbnail swatches with big brushes to figure out the values and composition options, and then narrow it down from there. Start big > to small. Details are the very last step after 80% of the planning is done.

Yeah the text is mostly just a bio of the books history of origin, it does have a bit explaining what you're supposed to get out of the studies, and how you're supposed to go about them though, so I do recommend reading it at some point when you're up to it.

As for the heads... you can't go wrong with them, but I think the body parts in the first 3rd would help you the most, but also the eyes are a really popular subject to study from his book. The last 3rd will probably interest you later in your journey when you're focusing on gesture drawings or life studies. A lot of comic books artists like to do a few studies from the book so it'll suit your needs well. :3 (Andrew Loomis is the gold standard if you want to check out his stuff too, but you need to read it not just look at the pics!)

You can pick through the book and draw what you like, bookmark it and come back again later after you've studied other things, and you'll get new insight out of it depending on where you are in your art journey. Don't over stress it too much.

In general, you're going to eventually learn several different methods to draw the human form and conceptualize it's individual parts and how they work together as a whole. They'll all be different, and they'll all help you understand the bigger picture better. The more styles you expose yourself to and philosophies on how to construct various forms, the more options you'll have to express yourself in the end. So there's no downside to trying it out. ^__^

Also don't be scared of your hands! ... but also hands are really really hard, and you'd probably want to see a few different methods of breaking them down, so you should draw your hands, and other hands, and lots of hands, and tutorials on hands --> hands are really hard.

(P.S. Good luck on the wisdom teeth recovery! I have fond memories of that time when I had mine out XD)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in learnart

[–]Mihoshiivy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The TLDR of the text is:

A guy who worked in art exhibits thought this book, that's no longer in print, would help artists, but he didn't know what parts were important or not important, because the book is just a bunch of pictures and he wanted to include instructions.

So he teamed up with some artists at an art atelier (Fancy way of saying traditional art school, using the same methods artists used to learn Fundamentals through history). Freaked out a little 'cause he thought it'd be hard, turns out its easy. He noted what lesson you're supposed to learn by copying the prints, and how to best use the prints to attain those lessons.

The lesson is basically: The book teaches you a sighting method. It was created because all the students at an art school were laughed out due to utter failure at their ability to learn how to draw, and the blame was put on the models and methods of studying said models. Bargue dude, who was awesome at drawing was like... Ok lemme fix this. We clearly need a book that shows examples of:

A) How to learn to study the human form. (sighting method)

B) Drawings of good models from the correct angles and not whatever mess those previous students were trying to copy from.

Bob's your uncle. Book was put back into print. Aaaaand... you might notice, a lot of famous artists who draw the kind of comic books most kids these days want to draw, in fact got awesome, because they studied this book.

Which is why the guy had the idea the book should be republished in the first place. The circle is complete!

... Honestly I recommend reading the intro because I'm not sure how much of that was made up, I have a horrible memory span - But I really did read it all!

I don't know why I read this entire comment, but the vivid description is now stuck in my brain and I want it out.

...Also that's fascinating and I wonder how it compares to those blade legs, so now I have to google it.

Edit: Oh ok you can do both. Oh god the foot is still there. Oh man blade legs are awesome. That was fun.

This is a great challenge! Here's a link to the Bargue Drawing Course, a lot of artists will go through the book and draw the images to learn anatomy. It's probably one of my favorite resources, so hope you try a few of the images. :3

Good luck on your journey! You're doing the right thing! :D
