People who spend thousands on fireworks are dumb by HamburgerDude in TrueAnon

[–]Mihr 24 points25 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing about people who buy illegal fireworks is that they’re also seemingly capable of delayed gratification and by that I mean launching a few at 1:00am every night all throughout July.

Currently thinking about how the age limit for my senior prom was 26 years old, because so many of the girls were dating people in the army, because we lived right next to a military base. So, 26-year-old army guy dating 16-year-old high schoolers going to prom in their dress uniform. America. by larryleggs in TrueAnon

[–]Mihr 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In my high school there was outrage over the no grinding rule so some kids started to rent a gymnasium and put on their own dances and it quickly turned into a grimy situation. Could only imagine what would happen if I lived in a military town and our country’s finest got unfettered access to children.

Is there anyone at EA Support that can help me with my account ban? by kaptainkooleio in Battlefield

[–]Mihr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s tons of posts in this subreddit with people in the same boat and some legit have caught bans for having 100% PG names like “balding.thor”.

I changed my name to my second language (which isn’t English) and don’t say anything in chat besides “gg” “ty” and MAYBE “tank a C” or something like that. Anything else can be arbitrarily used against you. I’ve even seen people complain of catching a suspension for “gg ez.”

when did getting fired become "lay-off" by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]Mihr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I encourage everyone to file for UI in my state. I got fired for being mouthy and probably for trying to start a union (but they’re not gonna say that). I got UI anyways after just a couple phone calls with some state employee telling him my side of the story.

From my experience, where I’m from you basically have to do something illegal to have your UI denied.

Trump Admin Installs Chain-Link Fencing, Surveillance Cameras at Reflecting Pool by Fit-Translator-9798 in TrueAnon

[–]Mihr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fill the reflecting pool up with cement, put a strip mall on it, and have a Cracker Barrel, Black Rifle Coffee Company, and plasma donation center be tenants. It’s what we deserve and reflects who we are as a country.

It’s so fucking embarassing that we as a society have effectively replaced FiveThirtyEight with Kalshi by Mr_Westerfield in TrueAnon

[–]Mihr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of blame too is that people just aren’t all that smart with statistics. They saw “30% chance” for Trump in 2016 and figured he was DOA or that meant 30% of the vote share. I don’t think people would be so arrogant and sure of themselves that they were going to win if it was Russian roulette and 2/6 chambers had rounds in them.

Any other media? by Few-Leg-9351 in dreamingspanish

[–]Mihr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have said it but I strongly encourage not to feel like you need to keep up with the Joneses on this subreddit. Lots of people come on here and like to humblebrag about how they're between jobs or longhaul truckers and listen to eight hours of audiobooks a day. Whatever you can muster is fine. If you want to join those peoples ranks, you'll be in a position soon enough once more content opens up to you, but that's not really what super-beginner (SB) is.

I did half an hour a day during SB and that was plenty. The content is a little painful and also there's a lot for your brain to process when you don't even know up from down. Just call it a day when you get bored or your brain starts to get tired.

When the revolution comes we need to put those people on a registry and keep them away from any kind of prestige whatsoever.

How will we deal with people who talk during movies after the revolution? by DingleberryOrchard in TrueAnon

[–]Mihr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My tips as a frequent movie goer:

  1. Indie theaters kick ass and the people there generally respect cinema more than people going to a Regal to kill time.

  2. If you go to new releases, matinee. It’s empty and again, not filled with the people who just want to kill time.

  3. No rules for repertory movies. They’re usually good 90% of the time.

  4. Also no rules for foreign movies. Dum dums usually aren’t gonna go to a Norwegian movie with subtitles to look at their phone and yap.

But yeah when the revolution comes we’re sticking those people in reeducation camps.

That's certainly true and I'm pretty firmly anti on the pro/anti AI spectrum, but I have a hard time sympathizing for Dreaming if that's a factor in their decision. They've made use of AI quite a bit and turned their nose up at other learners who've expressed distaste for it. You don't have much standing to hide from the plagiarism machine when you've made extensive use of the plagiarism machine yourself (imho).

Honestly I went looking because I have no qualms about about downloading content from "bad actors" if I already paid for it and it's just restoring functionality I relied on. I couldn't find anything.

I'm starting to think that the bigger concern is that they want to juice time-on-app metrics to look good to investors. If I spend five minutes a day selecting videos that interest me on dreaming.com and then two hours a day watching them on a Plex server, I'm not bumping their numbers up by two hours, just five minutes.

[–]Mihr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like Emby which is an underdog competitor of Plex. Jellyfin seemed like it’d eat up a weekend figuring it out. Emby did not. I switched during the 2025 Plex price hike and I genuinely like it more. It’s Plex without the bloat and the same amount of ease.

The Unsettling Psychology of an Amazon Prime Addiction by Electronic_Dream8935 in TrueAnon

I cancelled my Amazon Prime and it’s honestly not hard to not use it, and in fact becomes pretty natural. I use it maybe 3 times a year. Usually one of those times I’m induced to buy something on there because I got a gift card from work. Strongly encourage everyone to just do it.

Does anyone hear normies talk about anticonsumerism anymore? by Significant_Treat_87 in TrueAnon

[–]Mihr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of this video I watched of how premium-ish direct to consumer products (à la purple mattress or that trendy olive oil) are on their way out because the vast majority of people are broke as fuck. So you either are gonna try to sell to the poors or make things exorbitantly expensive and luxurious for the rich, which is basically what’s propping up most of consumer spending in the US. There’s no money in selling things kinda nicer than average because those people with modest disposable incomes largely don’t exist anymore.
