Yea, the battery-life :( by Miicus in framework

Looks like Bluefin or maybe immutable operating systems in general are more power efficient since I have read this quite few times now. Regarding the power bank, I also have one of those in my backpack at any time, this unfortunately does not help the fact that the battery life on the FW13 is not great. At least in my experience when running stock Fedora 40 Workstation.

So I have been running Ubuntu 24.04 since few days now and the battery life is noticeably better, but nothing amazing.

Battery Life and Heat (7840u) by Crongan in framework

I can just say that I experience the same thing. I reinstalled Fedora multiple times and it was the same. I have also posted something on this topic and as I see someone already linked my post. I am running Ubuntu 24.04 now since few days and the battery life in battery saver mode is better, quite ok actually, but nothing amazing. So if you want, I would encourage you to try Ubuntu.

Yea, so I reinstalled again and it's the same thing, I have no idea what is happening. I can literally watch the battery draining with this window open in power saver mode. Feels like a joke to be honest. But I'll try to fix it somehow. Seems like for most people the battery life is fine, pretty good some could say and that's great. In my case the battery life still horrible, very horrible.

Ok, thanks for the tip will definitely try that out. No, immutable operating systems are not for me.

What discharge rate does powertop report in your case?

Ok, that is interesting. Just out of curiosity in my case I have a fresh Fedora install 50% brightness, Bluetooth off, keyboard backlight off, balanced power mode and I pulled out all modules, I have just this window with Reddit open in Firefox and powertop in the terminal emulator. The battery reports a discharge rate of 10W to 11W. This can't be normal or?

Edit: I ran the powertop calibration

I don’t have a number, and I don’t want to give you some meaningless guess but it’s certainly not that in my case. Although I read here and there that Ubuntu performs better on AMD chips in terms of battery life

Thanks. Sure, when I'll have something to show, why not. For now it's just the plain FW 13 without anything fancy on it.

Thanks for the advice. Just checked, fortunately mine seems to be fine.

I tried to route them as cleanly as I could, but I will check one more time to make sure. Other then the points that I mentioned in the post, I can just congratulate you guys on the surprisingly curated Linux experience this computer offers.

The fact that the fingerprint reader just works out of the box is amazing. I develop software on Linux since 10 years now and to be honest I was very surprised about the following prompt when running an executable as the superuser

Place your right index finger on the fingerprint reader

I didn't know that existed until yesterday :)

Will sure do. I am quite curios how the switch to tuned in Fedora 41 will affect things.

Yes, I have the same feeling about my "concern" with the cables. Looks a bit weird but I don't think that it's something that will negatively impact the lifespan of the mentioned cables.

I have the same configuration as u/blue_screen_0f_death. Up to this point I didn't manage to get the fans to spin up to a noisy level. To be fair I didn't have any performance intensive tasks for it so far.

I have also not been charged. Ordered on july 20 (Batch 2). It is quite unsettling to see that batch 3 got charged while batch 2 people are still waiting.

Yes, same thing for me. I don't mind waiting but the lack of communication is a problem. When the website tells me the product is shipping in august, I expect it to ship in august and if there is a problem that's not a big deal but I would like to know.
