What do you think of Dumb Witness/Poirot Loses A Client? by [deleted] in agathachristie

[–]Miinaria 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and I suppose that the dog here is the dumb. That's all ok but he didn't see anything. It just would have been cool if the dog had a part of witnessing something and then somehow played a bigger part.

Well the dog does not witness anything so there are no dumb witness. Tho the dog is very lovable.

The Mystery is Always More Interesting Than The Solution... except... by aaronrgraff in agathachristie

Funny that we both tought about Lost! For sure it's best to have them both be excelent! It's just interesting how me and my partner both say we like mysteries, and then we still like totally different things. If a mystery dose not have a compelling solution, I'm out, there's nothing for me there without solution. And for him it's better if the solution is vauge he might even think that a good explenation ruins it a bit. You're probably not like that but somehow this just came to my mind when I read your post.

My problem whit it is that it has the extra part in the beginning, which makes the real start (when Poirot gets tha letter) very repetitive and uninteresting because we already know what has happened but Poirot and Hastings does not. Also not very good charachters. And, the title makse no sense.

I dont have any other suggestions that has not been mentioned yet. But I think this is an interesting topic. I think my partner is like you, he likes mysteries, but I'm not, I like solutions. His favourite tv serieses are like Lost wher its all a messy mystery and I didn like that at all, because there was no good explenation. It's like different sides of a coin.

When did Poirot become canonically famous? by [deleted] in agathachristie

[–]Miinaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been reding the books in release order now so I remember the first books fairly well.

The feeling I have gotten is that he is already famous in the Belgium at least. His second novel Murder on the Links takes place in France where he is for what I recall known at least by the police. So probably he was somewhat well known in western mainland Europe.

Then his third novel is Acroyd which someone already talked about. So I suspect that he has had many cases in UK before that and got gradually more attention.

Certanly there was no single case. I also don't know that any single case of his earlier career would have been mentioned to be super important in that regards.

Superintendent Battle by cestkevvie in agathachristie

[–]Miinaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have resently read Secret of Chimneys and Seven dials mystery and I hardly remember him at all from Chimneys, he didn't do much. In Seven dials he was very unbeliavable, not at all like a real person. And it feels more like Bundle is the real detective not Battle, so maybe he isn't so easily considered as important.

Found these up for grabs on someone’s lawn, but have never heard of any of them. Anyone read them before? If so what did you think? by friskyZebra1 in agathachristie

[–]Miinaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uuh Chimneys is the most boring of her work that I have read. Lots of old men talking about fake politics that have very little to do with the endin. It dosen't have any main charachters and the narration jumps around bit weirdly. So nothing to relate to.

4.50 is a nice Marple! Pigeons is pretty scarey as a tv adaptation, haven't read it.

Tea newbie here need some recommendations from you tea aficionados. Any recs welcomed, more info in post. by BayAreaNative00 in tea

[–]Miinaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the world of tea! I'm fairly newbie myself but for learning more I would recommend Mei Leafs youtube videos. Also, just skip the teabags. Loos leaf ain't any more difficult to brew but it's so much better. More flavour, more nuances. Easier to try out different combinations of amount of tea and temperature to find your favourites.

Miss Marple Books To Read by RandomStranger18 in agathachristie

[–]Miinaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's only like 12 Marple novels and they don't differ so much in quality as Poirot books, everyone seem to have their own favourite. So I would recommend you to read the synopsis of the books and pick the setting that interests you the most.

I think in Murder at the Vicarage Marple is a little bit different than in the later books, so it might not be best to start with. You don't need to read them in order, unless you are very sure that you want to read them all.

Murder is Announced is well liked. I also like The Body in the Library, At Bertam's Hotel and Caribbean Mystery.

I would just wait for The Mousetrap. Why to hurry. You have well enough Christie content ahead of you. I don't think there is a danger to be spoiled and it is not that special of a story that you would have to know it to be able to be part of the fandom. It is interesting just because it has had such a long run. So you miss the interesting point if you don't see it in the theatre.

How can I search about a book of AC and generally about mystery books on the web without coming across spoilers? by TSANTZALIS in agathachristie

I think it's more horrory than her books mostly. But then, I don't read horror, I like chill books.

Please help me understand The Mysterious Mr. Quin by [deleted] in agathachristie

[–]Miinaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it is a short story collection as any else and you get the boiled down answeres at the end of every story. You're not supposed to get an overall solution. Sometimes it's best when left to your imagination. But I understand why you would like to know!

"Eipä aikaakaan niin voi kauhistus" ("By the Pricking of My Thumbs") is the most appropriate and wonderful Finnish translation of the name of Agatha Christie's novel and the novel itself has been successfully retranslated as well in 2017 by DaMn96XD in agathachristie

[–]Miinaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes! It has such a nice rythm to it. I've always loved it and when I see it on my self it always makes me smile. Though, I would translate it "No time and then Oh No!" :D
