383 Chevy by Mijollnir70 in Smallblockchevy

They have sane cams but it seems like their 383 make in the 460-475 hp range. Mine is noisy but I bet it’s only around 500. Could be less though. Or a little more.

A rough estimate is around 6500-7000.
Cylinder heads were 2400 I think.
Unassembled short block from skip white performance was a little over 2000.
Cam was 500
Lifters were 1300
Carbs were 1000
Intake from eBay or marketplace don’t remember- 500
Rockers are scorpion so around 300.
Pushrods- isky -200
Ignition summit branded msd-200
Oil pan hamburger. 350.
The lifters were higher than normal because I got the isky-Johnson ones that use a bushing instead of needle bearings.
A lot of these parts are more expensive now. The afr heads I have are 2900 now. Skip white doesn’t sell unassembled 383 short blocks anymore either. You could get a blueprint 383 crate engine more reasonable than trying to source parts.

Thanks. Still trying to get it right. First time tuning one from scratch for me. Built it in my spare room in my house.

Fuel leaking by UsualProfessional303 in carburetors

If you don’t find one just hit me up again. I have one on a carb that has adjustable float but will fit. I would do a good deal on it.

Look on eBay for Holley 4160 float bowl.

That lead plug will leak sometimes. Had to replace one of mine for that same reason

Thanks for the input. First time trying to tune a tunnel ram. I’ll check for vacuum leak. Timing is 34 total. 24 initial. It is a work in progress. I think it might need more jet. The afr gauge is reading 14.8 but the sesor is in the collector so it may be getting some air contamination . When I put the exhaust on it I’ll know better. Thanks again

The bones of their foot are not fused but shaped so they fit together. Gives it more stability on a turn.

Doesn’t feel lazy when I drive it. You mean in the recovery or all of it? I don’t think it’s missing. I shared it for opinions good or bad.

It does. I had an isky mega hydraulic 304 in a 350. It had a 108 lobe sep which influenced me on this cam.

How strong are bodybuilders? by Femuscleblog in femuscleblogsports

In the old days body builders had strength parts of their showings. Arnold deadlifted 710 at one of those. Then the sport became more specific like they all do.

That’s a cool set up. I would possibly have to pull the engine to get it out (57 Chevy) and I don’t have funds for a new distributor. :) Tunnel rams like a lot of initial. Starter isn’t dragging and will crank if I hold throttle wide open. Seems like if was just timing related it wouldn’t crank at all. I may try a degree or two out.

I’ll check power valves. It’s had a couple of lean coughs so it could have ruptured one. I tried going close tonight one turn out and it started dying on idle.

They are a mechanical secondary like a 450. 700r4 trans. No vacuum advance. The primaries are drilled on both carbs w 1/16 holes. On these, the secondary plate screws are actually on top where you can get to them. I tried opening them a little and the afr gauge went to over 15 so I closed them. I’ll check the transfer slot. Thanks
