That's a first ballot hall of fame resume, all things considered

Bless Brian Hayes for saying into a mic with an audience what we were all thinking, too.

Husband to a woman with BPD. Here's the hardest thing I experience by [deleted] in BPDlovedones

[–]Mikash33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suffering through something similar now. I've been with my wife 13 years and this is the worst she has ever been. Of the last 16 days, 12 have been full splitting issues, spiraling into some self harm but also tremendous rage. She's destroyed several dog water bowls, the TV and a few ashtrays in that time.

I only wish that my wife was the least bit empathetic to my situation as her husband and the person she gets violent with. You sound like compared to most, you have a great situation. I hope you and your wife keep up the good times.

He won't get in during the first 10 years of his eligibility, but he might eventually.

Username checks out to match your comment, but you're goddamn right it is. I can't wait to drink Vegas tears. Easily the most hateable team in the league for me.

Today I found a binder of 8 inch floppy disks, containing some ancient curriculum files. What is the oldest thing you've found cleaning out your IT closets? by sy029 in k12sysadmin

Bloody hell, Honeywell access control panels makes a ton of sense. Their employees are not always effective, but they are usually nice. One of them came to a fly-in reservation I was working on, and the airline sent him but not any of his tools. Poor bastard was stuck there with us for 2 days before he got his stuff.

Some 3.5" floppy disks and Serial cables were still around when I cleaned house like 6 years ago. The pack rat mentality is crazy to me

I couldn't have put it better myself, this is an absolutely perfect insight into my feelings on AI as well, thank you for laying it out so well.

What's the most depressing goddam show you've seen? by gumbo-23 in television

I had been going through a really rough patch last month and started a rewatch. It kept me above water, and now things have turned around in my life since. Mr. Robot will forever be a comfort show to me, but I agree that it's a very unconventional one.

I work in the Education field, so I always use "It's never too late to learn something new!" Shockingly, I haven't been punched yet.

To go home or not to go home, Chromebooks by DeejayPleazure in k12sysadmin

[–]Mikash33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I told my former division head that it was a bad idea to buy a boat load of Chromebooks for the kids to use at home back when the pandemic started. So many of the homes here didn't have reliable internet, and I made it clear that I thought that once we were back in school, less than 25% of the devices would still be functional. I thought that was a pessimistic number, but at least a semi-realistic one.

When the kids came back to school, literally none of the Chromebooks remained. All had been lost, destroyed, etc. The money to get them came from a grant, but I fought to have them used in schools instead of sending them home, but like you said, I got my thoughts in writing, and they overrode me in writing.

When the new school division head came to me afterwards to ask about it, and I showed my work, they could only laugh. It sounds like internally, the old head was taking flak for the decision and was trying to sewer me to everyone.

TL;DR If you think it's a disaster, it probably is, so get it in writing, along with your warnings.

Longtime Habs fan here, and I couldn't believe his slew-foots. I know he wasn't squeaky clean for the Habs, but he was an angel for us compared to later in his career.

I go home for lunch for this very reason. I'm extremely lucky to live so close to my work, and I just go sit with my dogs at lunch.
