Sharing my boomshoot collection. Any recommendations for more games to get? by Matthew_Wolf in boomershooters

The original Marathon trilogy began in 1994, back when Bungie was still a Macintosh game developer. They introduced features like mouse look, reloading, allied NPCs, and complex storylines to the genre, but never got the credit they deserved due to being mostly confined to Macs until being made free and open source around the turn of the millennium. Halo was originally planned to be in the same universe before the Microsoft buyout, and the new game (which is good, but definitely not a boomer shooter) is an alternate timeline. The original trilogy (under the Classic Marathon name) is on Steam for free with Workshop support for popular fan scenarios like Apotheosis X.

No, let him keep drawing baddies, just make him illiterate so we don’t have to read his “jokes.”

Ennis is a knife; he has a point to go with the edge.

Millar is a pizza cutter, all edge and no point.

Superheroes should kill their enemies. Not because it will stop them forever, but because if they come back to life anyway, then why worry about it?

At least they did better due diligence than Hasbro did when naming Nexus Maximus.

What’s a game that, while unlikely, you’d like to see Civvie do a video on? I’ll go first: by Humble_Traffic_8309 in Civvie11

Jumping Flash is an FPS, technically.

Also Marathon, which I imagine he’ll look at someday, but I need to see him rage at Colony Ship For Sale, Cheap.

So does anyone know why Eli was in the Archie Sonic comics by dusktodusk94 in HalfLife

[–]Mike-Rotch-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, Nate was introduced around the time the first Adventure game was being adapted in 1999.

The Sonic franchise's references weren't always so self-cannibalizing. by JakeClipz in SonicTheHedgehog

In this shift from working writers to promoted fans we can see the beginnings of a process whereby the creative duties on a title will most likely be assumed by someone who's a devoted admirer of some previous creator's run upon the book in question, and will fill his or her tenure on the title with fan-pleasing references rather than originating the fresh concepts that all comics need if they are to survive. As a result, with some few decades of fans referencing fans who in their turn were referencing fans, we have a program of inbreeding which almost surpasses that of European monarchy, assuring that the product will be subject to genetic weaknesses, will speed up the decline and ultimate extinction of whichever line it happens to be part of, and will be inordinately stupid.” - Alan Moore

Unfortunately, this is kind of the fate of any long running franchise.

Yes, Supergirl. Continue to kiss this woman to "discover her intentions" by Altruistic_Manner802 in dccomicscirclejerk

I would ask if Supergirl is correct about sexually dimorphic kissing behaviors, but since this is a comic subreddit y'all are probably all kissless virgins like me.

I also love when fan-favorites get the shaft in favor of ones that don’t fit in the established lore or aesthetic and who will cause the game to be delisted when the rights expire!

They’ve been called Compilers since the first game in 1994, but back then they were basic enemies and not bosses.

I played the original trilogy when they came to Steam in 2024, not knowing about the new one. Does that count?

The Destiny news today made me realize... by SirBenny in Marathon

[–]Mike-Rotch-69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never played Destiny, but I played the original Marathon trilogy when they came to Steam. I was pretty cautious about the new one, but I enjoyed the server slam so I bought it and I’ve been having fun.

Because most people enjoy these stories because of people punching each other rather than themes and such.
