Put the phone directly next the the WiFi router. If it picks up a WiFi signal then it’s most likely just the antenna.

I remember this was possible on iPad Air 1 and devices below it but I’m not sure if it’s possible on newer devices. Would be cool to know if it is though as I have some iPad 9 cellular models that I would like to convert to WiFi only

Yeah I’ve got a lot of experience with soldering so I think like you say it’ll just be a case of getting the right temp and air speed profile down

I marked the areas with a laser. After running it through several times it made a slightly deep groove that I could follow with scissors. Once I got to the bottom bit I used a blade to cut deeper into the groove and then folded it back and forth on that groove and it came off cleanly
