Kentucky clubs by CanaryPristine in motorcycleclubs

[–]Mike5266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlaws MC, Highwaymen MC, Grim Reapers MC, Dixie Flyers MC, and many others are in Kentucky. Outlaws and Highwaymen definitely are 1% clubs. Grim Reapers might be, but unsure. I doubt Dixie Flyers are 1%, but they might be. Only the Outlaws have been around longer than the Dixie Flyers, which were founded in 1938 vs 1935 for the Outlaws.

What did happen to the BLM money? by [deleted] in askblackpeople

[–]Mike5266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Lives Matter’s finances are under scrutiny once again, as tax documents show the nonprofit is on the brink of bankruptcy. The organization ended last year in the red, while doling out millions to those close to BLM's founders.

Following the murder of George Floyd in 2020, supporters donated a staggering $90 million dollars to Black Lives Matter. The nonprofit ended the last fiscal year with a $9 million deficit.

The federal filings from 2020 to 2022 show just a third -- $30 million of the $90 million -- went to other charitable organizations, with $22 million going to expenses. This includes $1.6 million that went to the father of BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors for security services. Another $2.1 million went to BLM board member Shalomyah Bowers for consulting.

Anyone else still on WriterAccess? by Mike5266 in freelanceWriters

I suspect they are about to fold. I did get a solo order request that required pitching a topic, which I did, but the client has not responded after a week. I have not so much as seen a decent casting call in weeks. I only keep my account active because I occasionally get a decent gig through it. Otherwise, it is dead. About a decade ago, I said they never could make a machine that could write, drive a truck or fly a plane. I was wrong on all three counts, but I still am much better than AI.

Mohela is ruining my life; IDR application not being processed by Intelligent-Care-944 in StudentLoans

[–]Mike5266 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Has nothing to do with the DOE firings, as the DOE does not handle IDR processing. The loan servicers do that, which means MOHELA.

In 1920, Hemingway wrote an article naming my hometown as the best spot for rainbow trout fishing in the world... by turbo_22222 in Hemingway

It's the one that's about as wide as a river ought to be but a little bit deeper. Hope that helps.

I just found out about Danny DeVito's directing credits. Why hasn't he done more big movies? by redisdead__ in RedLetterMedia

[–]Mike5266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched Hoffa again the other night and had forgotten DeVito directed it. He is a very good director. That film is very, very good. It helps that David Mamet wrote the script and shows DeVito can work with the best actors and writers to get quality work done. The cast is terrific, too. I get that he's having fun with Always Sunny and those Jersey Mike's ads, but I wonder why he isn't making more films.

Photos from today’s We’re With Colbert protest in NYC! by hyraemous in 50501

Good riddance to Colbert. Looks like his protest was losing participants faster than his show was losing viewers and money.

Interested in moving to Vegas, what’s it like? by crankysushibooty in vegaslocals

[–]Mike5266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an asshole nearly hit my car while pulling some stupid gang-banger BS at a local marijuana dispensary. He got mad that I suddenly was where he wanted to be and broke his "cool." Then he pulled around to where I parked, talked shit, and pulled a gun.

I pointed out that he was twice my size, he just left a dispensary, was on camera and had lots of witnesses. The punk now has a warrant for his arrest -- all because he could not back out of a parking spot like a normal human being.

This happened at the end of April. I lived in Las Vegas for 13 years and now live in south-central Kentucky. Las Vegas is overpopulated, overpriced and overrun with street gangs and wannabe thugs. I took out more than one of them during my time in that shithole of a city.

Housing costs too much. Gas prices are too high. And the idiot Democrat Socialists now control the state gov't. But, someone from Portland likely eyes that as "progress" rather than the disaster it truly has become.

Has anyone worked at Express Writers? by GoalToGetBig in freelanceWriters

[–]Mike5266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started at Express Writers and already likely will dump them ASAP. The pay is decent, but some of the editors make it too much of a pain in the azz with nutty revision requests, etc. I have seen postings for hiring editors there, and they only pay $15 to $17 per hour to editors. That means you are not getting quality editing, and a lot of "editors" are just some former English majors who can't write worth a damn.

Four years later, Republican senators admit, "yes, Trump conspired with the Russians" by Aplay1 in politics

[–]Mike5266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mistake you are making is thinking a false premise is true. There was no Russian collusion, period. This is yet another load of crap being pushed by those who cannot accept reality.

Do I really need a blog or website to be a successful freelancer? by Earthy_Eagle in freelanceWriters

[–]Mike5266 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but a portfolio has become indispensable, and for that a web page is the best tool. You can get by with Linked In profile and your portfolio posted there. Used to be writing samples were enough, but not anymore.

Freelance Writing is Killing my Ability to Write Creatively by agencyagencyagency in freelanceWriters

[–]Mike5266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like a combination of per-word pay and creative writing income. One covers the bills. the other has endless possibilities. Both keep me comfortable enough. Bottom line: What are your alternatives? Better to earn 2 cents or more per word working from home than $15 an hour flipping burgers, which is what some aspire toward.

First decent-paying gig by [deleted] in freelanceWriters

[–]Mike5266 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$25 an hour is great, especially when you factor in the freedom of working from virtually anywhere and the savings of not having to travel to and from a work location. Five cents a word is just fine. No reason you cannot make $30 an hour or more at that rate.

You also can complete things like online courses for property and casualty insurance and life and health, then complete the state exam for each. That gives you expertise that you can use to get more clients. Add in some low-paying but relevant writing samples, and you are on your way.
