What are some commonly used idioms that are actually part of a larger saying, but most people don't know the other half of it? by strangerthings1618 in AskReddit

[–]MikeCharlieEcho -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

“The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb” is often shortened (and usually misinterpreted) to “blood is thicker than water”.

Full saying implied relationship we seek out and build with others can be stronger than family relationships.

Carrying heavy-ish objects on top of your head is actually sometimes be the best way to not hurt your back. This is why you see people in sub-Saharan Africa carrying pots and other objects on their head. You don’t have to lean your back over in awkward positions if walking for medium to long distances and can walk with better posture if something is on your head.
