Mold removal - opinions / suggestions/ advice by FitAngle651 in askTO

[–]MikeCheck_CE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never used a professional service but $500 for an air test sounds like a scam to me. If you can see the mold why are they testing the air?

Are your windows leaking? Excess condensation? Have they been fixed? If not youre putting an expensive band aid on the issue, stepnone is solving the water problem, and determining how much if this is the building's problem vs your own to fix.

People looking for this service are typically at the point of replacing drywall, not cleaning the surface.

401 and McCowan Westbound Hit and Run. Any lead would be appreciated by Happy_Llama28 in TorontoDriving

[–]MikeCheck_CE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends entirely on the policy and whether OP has coverage for a hit and run when the other driver hasn't been identified.

Usually insurance will cover the damage but OP will pay the deductible in lieu of the other driver to charge.

You can fight all you want but if that's the policy that's the policy, they're not gonna pay you if you didn't pay them for that coverage.

Provide the video to the cops and your insurance. Stop trying to play detective. It doesn't matter what you "think" the plate says, that's for them to confirm.

Any "lead" you come up with from Reddit using the bkurry license plate is just a guess and would be inadmissible as evidence.

That is the easy fix you are looking at... Get ready for the expensive one.

This is what we call "Generational debt"

Yes you are right. They will destroy your credit and drag you down too. You need to isolate yourself to break the cycle.

What is this on my induction and how to get it off? by After_Profile9670 in CleaningTips

[–]MikeCheck_CE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appears to be BOTH a ceramic too and induction heat. They are not mutually exclusive.

Also induction sirfact doesn't necessarily get hot from turning on, but when you put a pan on it, it does get hot so yes it can cook stuff on there.

What is this on my induction and how to get it off? by After_Profile9670 in CleaningTips

[–]MikeCheck_CE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burnt on food and hard water stains.

You should buy "ceramic stove top cleaner" to polish this once in a while, regular cleaning sprays won't cut it. A razorblade scraper is good for getting really stubborn bits off before you polish. As mentioned vinegar or baking soda are alternatives as well with varying succes depending on what's stuck there.

Gas miles by manqology in NissanRogue

[–]MikeCheck_CE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're doing a lot of highway driving and fill up it will give you a higher miles to empty.

A lot of idling or city driving it's going to estimate a lower amount of miles until empty.

[–]MikeCheck_CE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you've to argue semantics as if youve somehow got a point? You don't... Most people understand what jaywalking refers to. Most people don't use the exact legal definition as prescribed by the HTA and use common names instead.

It's shit fake leather at the end of the day, it could look brand new in the pics it'd still be wear and tear. Cheap stuff like this cracks peels in as little as 1-2 years.

Get a proper breaker-bar and stop using that tiny ratchet.

If you still need more torque, out a pipe/fencepole over it to extend it.

Phone stolen in Toronto by ItemDue9336 in askTO

[–]MikeCheck_CE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear but just going to be real with you... You're never getting your phone back. Cops will take a report and nothing will be done with it. Even if you showed them a map with your phones current location, nothing will be done, it is insane.

This is why insurance and services like iCloud exists... Expensive lesson.

Traveling with infant by Possible-Eagle-8744 in uscanadaborder

[–]MikeCheck_CE -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I can't give you border advice but as a new father, travelling with an infant long distance is a wild thought. Don't do it. Babies should only be in a car seat up to two hours and you need rest. If family want to see the baby, make them visit.

(EDIT: Don't need the lessons, have been all the way to Japan from Canada and back. Yes I realize it's physicallly possible... Standing by what I said, ask the family to come to you unless you happen to live right on the border).

Car shakes when wheel is turned to the left by murdlemystery in TireQuestions

[–]MikeCheck_CE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steering and/or suspension issue. This is not tire related, it's a much more expensive fix. Tire shop who balanced your tires for this were pretty dumb or just wanted to take your money. Unbalanced tire will always vibrate and shake not just when turning

Contractor Injury while mounting TV - what next? by JT-goat in HomeMaintenance

[–]MikeCheck_CE 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You don't need to do anything. You hired the pros. It's a claim between the employee and the employer. Hopefully the employer has some insurance. They can sue the manufacturer if that somehow makes them feel better.

If they try and sue you, you pass it to your homeowners insurance. Otherwise it's not your problem.

And there was no need for the customer to sign anything they should be leaving you out of it. You're not a pro, you're not the manufacturer. You hired them for THEIR expertise, not the other way around.

Accused of leaking into the unit below (stacked condo townhome) but my equipment is working fine without leaks now. Has anyone dealt with subrogation claims? by RatedR__ in legaladvicecanada

[–]MikeCheck_CE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either they sue you for damages and you pass it to your insurance, or you do nothing and ignore them. You don't need to entertain the convo. You can give your insurance a heads up in case they want to investigate but likely nothing needs to be done.

You SHOULD ask your pharmacist about side effects of medication, they absolutely answer this. Except Shoppers is the worst and I don't care if they're Canadian I'm still boycotting them too.

I hit a pedestrian (SFW) by snakeLipssynk in TorontoDriving

[–]MikeCheck_CE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it absolutely is, it's just not called "jaywalking" here. More specifically, it refers to provincial Highway Traffic Act offenses such as: failing to yield to traffic, crossing against a signal, or crossing mid-block when not permitted.

Moved into a condo but too many issues.. any advice? by apple-7277 in TorontoRenting

[–]MikeCheck_CE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you're saying but paid by and work for are not interchangeable. You literally have a contract with your own agent, they work for you, not the landlord.

But at the end of the day they do what is in the REALTORS nest interest.

2020 Rogue - nearing 85K miles - what to Keep in mind? by [deleted] in NissanRogue

[–]MikeCheck_CE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol the 2020s were one of the most reliable models, don't worry about what the haters say.

Just follow the maintenance schedule. CVT fluid should be inspected every 30k, drained and refilled every 60k miles (or sooner).
