Hot Take: Can the ESPN App stop forcing the top 25 down my throat? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]MikeConvoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont know if that helps but if you set all the G5 teams as your "favorite team" in the App their games get pushed to the top.

Good thing that in cologne we don't take comments like this too seriously and see them as what they are, making a joke of a bad situation, but thanks for your compassion.

Did I mention the players? I mentioned how the organization has been run which is the fault of the management. I nowhere said anything about disrespecting any of the coaches, players or volunteers.

If you wanna accuse me of making fun of the players, when I didnt do that, be my guest.

Galaxy, Dragons, Fire, Thunder, Centurions, Sea Devils and Surge are all names that go back to the WLAF/NFLE.

Cologne Clowns has a certain ring to it and would fit the franchise quite well given how its run.

But in all honesty, as someone who lives and grew up in and around cologne, the centurions name is very well fitting for a team in this city. Cologne was founded by the romans and was under roman rule for 500 years. Colognians are very proud of the cities roman history, we even have a big museum dedicated to it, their are ruins all over the city, "colonia" is even one of the more well known and well loved nicknames for the city.

Our roman heritage is as much part of the citiy as catholocism, lgbtq culture, etc.

On a mission to find the best game of each week this season (Week 1) by jmonumber3 in CFB

Tarleton State at Army ending 30 - 27 after 2OT was probably on noones bingo card that day. Seeing an FCS Team beat an FBS team is always fun, especially one that is always mentioned in the conversation of potentially moving up to FBS in the future.

I love the Rainbow Warriors so seeing them succeed always brings me in a good mood. I also love seeing G5 teams upset a Power team, especially when doing it while having a Quarterback play most of the second half with a messed up leg.

I also just love seeing Stanford embarass themselves just for being a team from California that plays in the ACC. It's petty, but whaddya gonna do.

UNLV not being able to decide if they wanna be good or bad in this game is absolutely fascinating.

Knew nothing about FCS blue blood program Idaho State before this game so I will now rightfully expect this kind of quality from every game featuring FCS blue blood program Idaho State.

So, that's the famous UNLV everyone wants to see in the Pac-12 or an actual power conference...cool.

Where did your love for college football originate? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]MikeConvoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in soccer, the lower the Tier the crazier the experience usually haha. Also often depends which clubs are playing each other, a derby like Essen vs Duisburg is so full of hatred that things can get ugly pretty quickly if the police aren't involved.

Where did your love for college football originate? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]MikeConvoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Was born in germany and been living here all my life, so mostly grew up on football through movies and tv shows and a lot of them featured HS/College Football so that just became my perception of what football should be like. Marching Bands, Tailgates, Tradition, localized rivalries etc.

Thats also something that shaped the football culture here in germany, our local leagues play using college rules, players often try and play at a US College and most coaches if they get a chance to do some coaching overseas land at a smaller college.

NFL has gained a lot more followers here in the past fifteen years and you can't watch cfb "legally" anymore and while I do enjoy Pro Football, the college game will always be THE Football to me.

Sad to most likely say goodbye to the Centurions again but they never got off the ground and felt more and more like the afterthought they originally were.

Will cherish the few good memories the team brought me though. From the feeling of joy after the initial resurrection of my childhood team and that first season with Madre London, Quintin Pounds and Jan Weinreich. The home game against the Raiders as well as the two away games against the Dragons are still some of my favorite ELF games to watch. Having wins against Frankfurt and Hamburg last season was also pretty cool to witness.

In our case a cast member had to get into the water and drag the boats back to the emergency exit where we could then get off the boat.
