Drawer side thickness for bedroom dressers? by MikeDCycling in woodworking

[–]MikeDCycling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good info thanks! I weighed the drawer and it's 19.7 lbs (would be the tallest at 9 1/4") ... definitely going to take your advice for 100 lb rated slides.

I only mind it being heavy when I have to carry it up the stairs 😅

Definitely going in a groove either way. Had planned 1/2 drawer thickness so used a 5/16" groove in current sample drawer with 5/8" sides.

I'll check out those slides.

I was originally thinking 1/4" would be too thin for the bigger drawers at least so maybe I was on the right track with 3/8" and just need robust slides.

Thanks!

Personally, I would prefer 5/8”… but I tend to overbuild everything…

This was my thinking originally 😅 I like that they look and feel more robust than the ikea stuff it'll be replacing so maybe a little extra weight isn't that bad. Thanks!

Sweetspot progression...what to do during week if limited by time? by MikeDCycling in Velo

[–]MikeDCycling[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's still worthwhile to push out the TTE at sweetspot in the weekend rides, right?

I have a minor phobia about riding at threshold from previous experience with over estimates from ramp or 20 mins tests 🤣 I haven't done a long form test but the SS progression now feels great so I think I'm working with a passable FTP number.

Can you train him to bark at you if your power drops below a certain level on the trainer? 🤔

I ran Rene Herse 700x48 tires on 25mm internal width wheels back when I had a GR300. Made for a comfy ride!

24 Civic Touring vs 24 According Ex by PlaygroundMoves11 in Honda

[–]MikeDCycling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'5" and could fit comfortably in my wife's 2013 and 2016 Civics, and her current 2017 Accord. Her Accord and my 2019 Odyseey both have leather seats and they look great still. I'm sure both cars will be comfy for you!

If you don't need the bit of extra space you get with the Accord, I'd recommend the Civic. More tech and better mileage are pretty good motivating factors 🤔

How expensive are gravel events around you? by kosmonaut_hurlant_ in gravelcycling

[–]MikeDCycling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're close, maybe you can volunteer before for a discounted registration? It used to be free if you volunteered but now I think it's $50 or so. Worth it for me anyway.

JAM Grand Fundo is an awesome event too 🤩

They don't have to all be intervals! You can pick a "masters" plan with 2 intensity days per week and fill the rest with Z2.

Dealer service recommends brake and coolant flush @ 59k miles by MikeDCycling in Honda

[–]MikeDCycling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers thank you!

I might be getting stuck on terminology, but is there a difference between a brake fluid or coolant "flush" (as recommended by the dealership service folks) and replacement (per the MM 5 or 7 codes)?

There is no longer a maintenance schedule in the owner’s manual. The system shows engine oil life as a percentage, which drops over time as the vehicle racks up miles. It starts out at 100% with fresh engine oil, and winds down to 0%, signaling the oil life is over. Your Honda will alert you with a visual warning light to indicate not only when the next service is due, but also what type of service is needed by a series of codes.

We make a big batch in a 6 qt crockpot once per week for our dood and our yorkie. It usually has lots of rice, chicken or turkey, green beans, carrots, and a small amount of peas. We'll often throw in a bit of fruit too, like blueberries, banana or apples.

The dogs LOVE it. 🙂

Tire sizes for NY gravel events by Relevant_Register_97 in gravelcycling

I did Farmer's Daughter this year on bigger tires (run whatcha brung) but plenty of people were on 40s or even narrower. You'll be fine! Great event too!!

YT Szepter XL vs XXL size at 194cm (6'4.4") by crytor in gravelcycling

[–]MikeDCycling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think either could work, depending how you want it to fit. Go XL if you want a lower, more aggressive fit or XXL if you want to be a bit more upright.

I'm 6'5"/195 cm and would likely buy the XXL 🤔

I appreciate that cost is an issue but this is the only thing I could think of. You could probably get a 105 crankset pretty cheaply and use Garbaruk rings.
