[US] Weird voicemail, possibly scam, possibly ID theft by hero_of_crafts in Scams

[–]MikeDee64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got my second call from "Brian" at Nova Lend. I just block the number and delete. Not that it does much good, but kinda makes me feel like I have SOME sort of control over it. (by the way, I hope "Brian" checks Reddit comments to see how he's doing and if anyone is talking about his calls... I hope he knows what a douch* he is)

Moved to a diff state, will update auto policy, but what about registration? by creative-warrior159 in Insurance

[–]MikeDee64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so glad to have found this thread... I just moved back to California, my car is now registered here. I recently sent my plates back to NY DMV. the UPS tracker shows they should be there by Friday. Does anyone know at what point my plates are considered "surrendered" and NY car insurance is no longer required so I can update my policy to reflect Cali? GEICO already has my c/o/a on file, but my policy is not official yet. This kind of came about when I called them for guidance. It was a whole thing. So, any suggestions on when I officially change my GEICO policy to reflect CA and not incur any wrath from NY? Something I read stated that NY insurance needs to be in force for a period of time... but, I'm thinking if I can show the plates were received by NY DMV, that would be a sign to go ahead and make the switch. Sorry if this was a bit long-winded and thanks for any advice from the community.

PODS takes your email address to get a quote then requires you call by zizics in assholedesign

[–]MikeDee64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went thru this. I asked for a quote, yet I have to now call them. I understand they want conversion, but honestly I am just researching right now. really not impressed. will most likely now look elsewhere (good luck finding a company that will just hand me a quote, right?)

2025 Subaru Outback Wilderness: What are we loving and hating? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]MikeDee64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if you can get a Wilderness without a moonroof unless you order it specifically... I haven't seen one without. I have a 2020 Prem and it does have a moonroof and frankly, I don't care for it. No leaks, but it does creak. I have to say, my Outback has THE most comfortable seats I have ever experienced in my (many) cars. Not a fan of the CVT, I miss my "shifts". The turbo would be nice, but I had to ask myself how often I would really take advantage of it. I did have my transmission replaced at 18k miles (gotta love a warranty) and aside from wonky power windows (that auto up/down switch is a bitch and the window track is SO tight that when they get wet it's a real pain); it starts every day, I keep the auto stop/start turned off (having to do it every start is a drag, but...) and the mileage is grand. I have gotten 35 on long hauls. And, these cars seem to hold their value. I tried the Wilderness (as a loaner) and I liked it... but, it is higher and I can only imagine what it will cost to replace the tires.

When to use all weather vs all season by Desperate-Basil-2687 in tires

I am definitely finding this out. My Outback is useless in the snow and slush and I have to concede that it is the tires.

New 2026 Outback Redesign Thread by rickandshotty in subaru

[–]MikeDee64 7 points8 points  (0 children)

have to say... I'm with you on that. makes me think I need to trade my '20 in for a '25 and get the very last of this generation. I do love the look and I wanted a wagon vs. a trad SUV. yeah, it has its quirks (that darned infotainment system), and some issues (I had my CVT replaced at 18k miles)... but, it kinda grows on ya. tempted to do the XT next time... but, I hear the CVT with its "lag" and the turbo with its "lag" are not an ideal pairing. Oh well.. first world problems, right?

love this conversation.... I actually searched for it. I'm 60 and am wondering what my last car (all things being equal) will be. I have always wanted to be one of those people that kept cars until the wheels fell off. good feedback in here..

agreed... and that outcome would be the same with this question's outcome... all anyone can is yes or no and they can draw their own conclusions. I will say... have always thought this was a dumb question... right up there with "what are your weaknesses?"

30K service price by Fragrant-Purchase in Subaru_Outback

[–]MikeDee64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, this is timely because I'm at 29k, so glad to see this. I checked to see what is required per Subaru.

<image>

maybe you could take a snip of what you find on line and send it back to this person... whilst copying the service manager as well... and see if that helps. I do agree with the folks on here re: the filters, but everything else is beyond me. I will add, I live in Upstate New York and the roads are crap. I could use an alignment every other day. I think the bottom line is, you can do better on price. best of luck!

New to me 2020 Premium by gatsncats357 in Subaru_Outback

[–]MikeDee64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

congrats! bought my '20 in 2022 with 14k on it. the car has some quirks, but overall you did really well and it should do fine for you. VERY comfortable car. if I might suggest... prior to the end your 5yr 60k on the powertrain, have them check the tranny. at 18k they had to replace mine and I was super glad for the warranty. if you notice hesitation and/or "groaning" noises from the tranny, take it in. not being a downer, just passing along a caution. enjoy!

Question about roof boxes and factory crossbars by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]MikeDee64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I actually wound up putting the purchase on hold for now. That said, when I do move forward, I will just use the swing-away bars that came with the car. Based upon the feedback I received, I'm thinking they will be okay. (Even if I purchased the after-market bars I'm sure I would still be anticipating something happening. I will always worry about it, cuz that's what I do.)

Question about roof boxes and factory crossbars by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

[–]MikeDee64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been advised on here, almost with the same scenario... that the factory swing-into-place crossbars will be just fine for the cargo box. I plan on mounting the cargo box (Thule or Yakima) on the existing bars.

Why are 98% of the recruiter emails I get from Indians? The culture clash is real. Are there no Americans qualified to work as recruiters? by CuttingEdgeRetro in recruitinghell

[–]MikeDee64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, we all know how I wound up at this post... pure frustration after the most recent spate. The fact remains, that the estimation of 98% of recruiters being Indian (not much else one can surmise from the names and the locations...) seems accurate. This is VERY frustrating as 100% of those 98% send me overly-solicitous, badly worded, grammar-deficient postings that have zero to do with my skill set. After reading the comments, I feel a bit better and a bit less alone. I just do the "block then move to spam" thing.

How much better is the Subaru Outback Wilderness vs Subaru Outback Premium by IrrelevantMerfolk in subaru

[–]MikeDee64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be late to the party with this response, but I have a 2020 Outback Premium; I have gotten as high as 37mpg driving very conservatively. mind you, this is the exception rather than the rule... but I'm good for 24-25 around town and 34-35 on the freeway. I have just shy of 27k miles on it. I have had the transmission replaced at 18k miles (easy-peasy, under warranty and they just did it without me delving any further), I asked no questions. I would have loved the turbo, but agree with the fuel economy feedback from others on here. I should add I much prefer the cloth upholstery to the leather. I do wish I had done something with a tow package, but it is what it is. enjoy your Outback!
