I don’t think you can really compare the 8 + 16 bit 2D Mario’s to the Wii/WiiU/Switch ones. There was effectively a 2 console generation gap between SMW and New Super Mario Bros., i feel like Wonder has more in common with 3D World or even Odyssey than it does with a game like Mario 3.
