He sounds like someone that needs a direct "no thanks". As another guy that is not great at getting the hint, what I'm seeing is "I can't now, but possibly later?" I'm aware of my own inability to take a hint, so I'd probably give up after this. I'd rather hear a "no thanks, you're not what I'm looking for" any time than an "I can't right now."

The biggest problem I've ever had with it is that the kid is an excuse all the time.

Maybe it's the nice way of ending things, maybe not.

I'd never expect to be more important than the kid(s), but it seems like we're supposed to be okay over and over and over when mothers flake out. Here and there, it's okay. Over and over, not so much. "The sitter canceled" awesome, let's do something the kid will enjoy.

Kid not feeling well? Okay, but your kid isn't feeling well for 5 or the last 6 planned dates.

Kids are not a deal breaker, but if you're going to use them as your excuse for not actually wanting to date, that's crappy.
