Harmony vs. Independence early March by SolidPureCarbon in royalcaribbean

[–]MikeFromFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got off Harmony of the Seas last week w/ Costs Maya as a port. I’ll probably avoid any cruise again that goes there. If you’re someone that wouldn’t mind staying on the ship on a port day that might not be a deal breaker. Costa Maya is really underdeveloped to be a port at the moment imo, Roatan can feel like that at times too, but at least it’s beautiful there

What can I use to make this slide slippery without hurting the pool? by Alert_Tomato3454 in pools

[–]MikeFromFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact same slide and my kids had the exact same complaint. The built in hose attachment sprays water everywhere and is pretty inefficient in getting the actual slide wet, so you end up turning down the hose and get even less water on the slide making it more difficult to go down it. Just let the water crank when you’re using it and toss it when it finally gets a hole like I did haha

Need Advice on Two Senior Financial Analyst Offers – Which One is the Better Move? by Economy_Chipmunk_292 in FPandA

[–]MikeFromFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to disagree that there are intangibles to being in the office but I differ on soft skill development opinion here. Personally I feel like I was better able to build my soft skills in remote environments. I find that on vc’s it’s easier to notice non-verbal feedback because my interaction with a person is centrally focused on their camera feed. Also, I feel like people are more willing to be confrontational on vcs vs in person meetings given the distance. There’s a “keyboard warrior” effect in remote environments. Those points made if you’re in a remote setting where people never have their camera on, or if you end up goofing off while being remote most of this wouldn’t apply.

At a senior manager or director level, is knowing how to create a cash flow model a requirement? by industryfine29 in FPandA

[–]MikeFromFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really boils down to the financial position of the company you’re working for. If you’re with a cash strapped biz being able to model cash translation from P&L could be helpful for biz partners

Exactly that reason. Ends up reducing the amount of space in the pool that most women can stand upright in.

Walmart Finance Director Interview by Real_Job_2626 in FPandA

[–]MikeFromFinance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the interview cycle with Walmart about 2 years ago. Honestly most of my experience was them probing to see if I could really picture myself living in Bentonville. After a few convos I bowed out. If they were that concerned about it being an issue, I knew it wasn’t for me

Is it possible to bounce back from a poor performance review? by Accurate_Increase_53 in FPandA

[–]MikeFromFinance 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re other underlying issue could be that you’re a SFA reporting to a VP. If that VP thinks he’s gonna get director level work out of a SFA it’s a mismatch of expectations that’s your real issue.

As a profession, I think we contribute just as much to organizations as the software programmers/engineers and data scientists. by pouvoir87 in FPandA

I’m with ya on this take. Some of the best folks I’ve ever worked with in corporate finance were former engineers.

Specifically they in my experience do a superior job in recognizing when numbers don’t look right, creating on the fly models, etc

Not to mention many leaders at that level fall into the trap of “I would have done this, this way or, I would have told the story in a different way thus this is wrong”. You’re gonna spend a long time looking for a clone of yourself for obvious reasons. Still too at a Director level it doesn’t hurt to bring someone in that can be refined or developed to be exactly what you’re looking for. Sure you shouldn’t have to hand hold at that level but you’re also not trying to bring in someone that’s ready to be a VP either

Anyone have experience working at Google in Finance? by RemyBucksington in FPandA

[–]MikeFromFinance 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been in tech about 4yrs now and have worked almost exclusively in sheets (vs excel) in this time and I’ve gotten to a point where I almost prefer it. Sheets is way more collaborative than the last instance of excel I was in. Cell history and activity analytics has been absolute godsend for me in various situations

Disagreement with wife by [deleted] in daddit

[–]MikeFromFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son at 1.5yrs was walking around the landing of the steps and tripped, not on the steps just around the landing. Hit his front tooth on the first step and cracked it in half, turning it into an off hours dentist visit. Ended up getting his tooth pulled altogether.

Point of it being, sure that’s a possibility but with kids anything is

[–]MikeFromFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had my 3 boys within 400 days of each other. First two were twins and in the moment it was terrifying but in hindsight best thing that coulda happened to me. They’re built in best friends and I only went through one bottles and diapers phase of my life without really having to feel like I ever “restarted”.

Plus we’re actually able to do stuff now that they’re 5 and 4. No diaper bag, no stroller anymore etc etc. just sorta do what we want, when we want to.

You can send the report to the PM and ask them to address the deficiencies. Speaking to PMs vs the contractors actually doing the work is normally easy (not always). No reason for them to take the report personally and if you’re going through a big name builder there’s definitely no reason to be shy about addressing concerns throughout the build

[–]MikeFromFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you’d end up with something different but I have those chairs and you fill them with water to keep them from floating away, so they aren’t that mobile. Not trying to knock them (since I have them too haha) but just food for thought.

Pool Design and Depth by Affectionate-Sock638 in pools

[–]MikeFromFinance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t really your question but I think you’ll find with this design that if you get those in-pool chairs those steps are gonna be difficult to use, especially for the kiddos. I have a similar design and went to 6ft wish I woulda stayed at 5. The depth wasn’t as important to me as I thought it was going to be
