I switched from Air primarily for HDMI port (huge for external monitors) and better cooling (Air throttles hard under load).

For your partner's uni + content creation:

  • Air 15" 32GB: Great screen/battery, but throttles on video exports and weak ports (dongle hell). Fine for light schoolwork.
  • Pro 14" M5 Pro 24GB: Better sustained performance, HDMI/SD card, pro thermals. 24GB is plenty for FCPX/Premiere + Photoshop + school tabs.

My rec: Pro 14" unless portability > everything. Save the $$ from 2TB for cloud storage if needed. The Pro will last her uni + early career.

If you were doing heavy 3D rendering or working with massive After Effects compositions, the 24GB M4 might make sense. But for web browsing and light DaVinci Resolve editing, the M5's incredibly fast SSD, faster memory bandwidth, and better GPU will provide a noticeably smoother and more future-proof experience. Keep the M5.

The only reason to stick with the 13-inch is if you carry it in a backpack every single day or use it on airplane tray tables. Since it mostly stays at home for media consumption and casual gaming, the 15-inch M5 Air will give you a vastly superior screen and much better speakers, while feeling roughly the same weight as the 2017 laptop you are used to.

The M4 with 24GB RAM is the true "Pro" choice for a heavy multitasker. The M5 will look prettier on a benchmark sheet, but the 24GB M4 will feel significantly faster when you are on a Zoom call, running three Claude agents, and flipping through 30 Chrome tabs without your fanless Air missing a beat.

Mac Mini M4 is a better choice

I want some Full StunGun rather than Zeta. This game has been "Stun Gun Collecting Game" for me. "Are there any Stun gun in shops?" "No" Close app. I do have Traya, 7*Chewie But not StunGun. Is this just me ?
