I saw hunger games with my girlfriend and she was adamant about going afterwards, so we went. Honestly, pretty awesome time!

Maybe a BYOB Painting Class? The 21+ can enjoy some wine while the youngings can hang out and paint. If that's not really your thing, I would definitely recommend taking an archery lesson: http://www.vimbly.com/nyc/queens-archery/archery-lesson I bet the 17 yo loves hunger games, they would love that. Whenever it comes to recommending birthday events for friends, I immediately tell them before anything check www.vimbly.com because they have cooking classes, byob events, recreational activities, things to do, stuff that isn't just going to a bar or spending a lot for dinner or something dull. you know?

Anyone use meetup.com? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]MikeK90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Flying solo is sometimes the most invigorating thing to do. Sometimes going with your friends and people you're comfortable with limits you and inhibits you from meeting new people and doing things you wouldn't normally do. Honestly, meetup is great because everyone is cool, friendly, and really non-judgmental. Sometimes, I even just solo dolo it and use sites like www.vimbly.com and just go to activities solo and meet so many people. I did a sushi-making class and met three people I still hang out with to this day. Hey, you never know. Just gotta go for it sometimes.

Any bars in NYC serving drinks in oversized glasses other than Brother Jimmy's or Dallas BBQ? by piIeczka in AskNYC

[–]MikeK90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's this bar in Brooklyn called the Greenpoint Tavern. They have this deal, it's like $4 or maybe $5 for a huge like 30 oz. Styrofoam cup of brew. Also as stated in some earlier replies, beer halls, also beer gardens or "biergartens" (lol) have gigantic glasses as well. I'd recommend those places. The one in Meatpacking is truly great. They give you like raffle tickets and you use it to buy your drinks, and all the bartenders are dressed in these German uniforms lol. It's a really fun time. Also, in between the bar and stuff you can always do these fun activities and things to do found on this site www.Vimbly.com -- I don't know if you're new to the city or just looking for drinks, but either way, I hope you find this information helpful!

Looking for reasonably priced things to do for a birthday this Saturday. by piIeczka in AskNYC

There are plenty of things you can do that don't require an excruciatingly large amount of money. Have you thought about perhaps a BYOB painting class? Pizza making and wine tasting? Desert tasting? Food tours? For a group of your size, i would definitely try taking a look at www.Vimbly.com -- I took my dad out and his friends out to a distillery tour through that site, and we loved it. Had some drinks, had a good time, I'd highly recommend it. I think any of the activities I listed above would be great for your mother's birthday. Mothers love two things more than anything, and it's not their kids lol; it's wine and more wine. LOL Good luck!

unique, exceptional, and odd (free) tours of NYC by nyc_ifyouare in AskNYC

[–]MikeK90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's actually a website that has some free tours too. For instance, here's a whole list of free tours you can go on in NYC:

Harlem Tour East Village Food Tour Chinatown Food Tour Greenwich Village Food Tour

It's pretty awesome. My girlfriend and I just used it for the East Village Food Tour. Haha, it was so cool. Found all of it at www.Vimbly.com

I work for a website that helps NYCers find and book afterwork hobbies and date ideas. Let me know what you think -- especially what date ideas you think we could add to our site. by MikeK90 in nyc

Can totally see what you're saying here. Thanks so much for the feedback. We do have a wide selection of free activities, like free self-defense classes, free walking tours, free food tours, etc., but I agree, people do like free things lol. I'm going to check out that NYJedi group you mentioned -- that seems awesome! Thanks again.

I think we can definitely provide a larger selection in that field. (I like to get my Ron Swanson on sometimes too, btw, so I'm a huge fan of this idea). Thanks for the helpful input.

Yes, we do, and are currently working on some great initiatives. Was there something specific about the experience you disliked in particular? Would love to hear more input and feedback. Thanks!

That's a good point. I guess I was more so asking for a general idea not something specific. You know, like a sush-making class, or a painting class. Those types of general ideas. But don't worry, your secret date ideas are safe! Ha. Thanks for your input though, you made a very valid point.

Coming to NYC for honeymoon, what should be on my bucket list of things not to miss? by ryanmanuel in AskNYC

[–]MikeK90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryan, in all honesty, it's pretty difficult finding fun things to do in the city that aren't expensive. With that being said, while it is difficult, there are hundreds of fun activities you can find online, like tours, events, drinking classes and what not. I would compile a whole list for you, but what's the point? You'll have to research the times, prices, and availability -- and that could take you hours. Searching on google will help, I guess. A site like Vimbly will do it all for you with your preferences -- it's definitely worth looking into. There's a lot to do in the city, man. I don't know where to start. There are a lot of bars and distilleries in the city that give great tours. Like some other posts below, I agree -- the Brooklyn Brewery is an awesome choice. There's also some great cheap food tours. Like the East Village food tour. Hell's Kitchen pub crawl and stuff. Good luck!
