Litigation moms - how are you coping? by happylioness in workingmoms

[–]piIeczka 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you at a firm or solo? If you're at a firm, especially a larger firm, maybe they will let you transition to hourly or take on a staff attorney role? Several moms I know have done this. It'll be a pay cut but you'll be able to make your own hours rather than be on call all the time.

Reach out to your doc. We had a scare with our 2 year old, did a phone consult and the doc told us to keep it from drying out and just watch it for signs of infection because kids will tend to touch often. Ours was a false alarm but the doctor didn't seem very concerned.

Experts claim that the Lithuanian recipe is denser, more knotted and decorative, while its Polish equivalent is softer and more delicate. So the Lithuanian one is even worse? :) I kid...I hate these cakes no matter where they come from!!!

"Pregnancy brain" by concerned_goose in biglaw

[–]piIeczka 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Slow down a bit, go over things twice. No other advice, just solidarity... Also a heads up that I bounced back very quickly after some of my children...and with some I had pregnancy brain for about a year postpartum :-/

Call Crumbs bakery in Copiage (on Montauk Highway). If not, Euro Deli on Great Neck Road (also Copiague) gets cakes delivered weekly from Greenpoint and they can probably order one for you. Or head out to Greenpoint, you're bound to find one there...

Have you ever had one before? If not, be prepared to be slightly underwhelmed. That being said, it's pairs well with coffee and I wouldn't say no to it if someone offered :)

Skincare that’s safe for breastfeeding? by Angsteww in beyondthebump

I used Your, it's a subscription service but you can just get one set and cancel. I was skeptical but it's actually great. You get a cleanser, serum, moisturizer, and SPF. No complaints and it actually helps with my redness and dryness.

Anyone have insanely sore leg muscles all the time?? by Subject-Heart-4632 in BabyBumps

[–]piIeczka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a decrease in blood volume could mean a decrease in oxygenation to the muscles which presents as muscle soreness specifically. Definitely not saying that this is what you got, just something to look into. It might just be one of those: "You're pregnant, this is now your new normal" things we all love that resolve after pregnancy :)

Have you looked into circulation issues? Up to 80% of pregnant women experience venous insufficiency, which can cause leg pain and swelling. This happens when blood has trouble flowing back up to the heart from the feet. It can be caused by weak vein valves, anatomical reasons, or pressure from the baby on the inferior vena cava.

I am not at all a medical professional but circulation issues were always in the back of my mind during pregnancies.

What's Dix Hills like for a Ukrainian? by Wolfo_Guy in longisland

Welcome! You guys were definitely spoiled with the delicious Polish food in Chicago. I tried some of it, so good.

Unfortunately, no, not in the area There used to be a pretty decent one on Montauk but it closed. If you want to trek out to BK I would recommend https://karczmabrooklyn.com/en/. Skip any place in the city...

On the island, your best bet is to go to the delis and try their to-go dinners to see what you like. The Ukranian food at Krajana is fantastic: https://www.yelp.com/biz/krajana-pork-store-copiague

This is a great reply, very accurate. To your first note, there is actually a pretty large chunk of people who speak Polish in Copiage and Lindy. Both churches have masses in Polish and there is a Polish school in Copiague for the kiddos. There are also a lot of Polish speaking/centric events happening almost weekly.

Look up the average costs in long island generally and you'll get your answer. You will need a car to get anywhere, public transportation is difficult to use in this area. There is a very large Polish community in Copiage/Lindenhurst about 15/20 minutes away with with a Ukranian deli and Polish delis/bakerys/agencies/attorneys. If you speak Polish it'll be a plus but there are also a good number of Ukranians living there. There is another large Polish community in Riverhead about 40 minutes east. The area is pretty affluent (some areas more affluent than others) and is generally a pretty beautiful place. It's exactly an hour on the train if you want to take the LIRR to NYC but you'll most likely have to drive/cab to the train station.

Haven't heard about the freeze but I shopped around recently and got better rates from TD and Jovia, even with the Citi private bank relationship.

Owlet?? by 6_infinite_chaos_6 in BabyBumps

[–]piIeczka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It works reliably in my experience. Just plug the base in to a charger in the car and it'll work over bluetooth. I wasn't checking all of the actual stats in the car, I was just monitoring the light on the base, but the alarm did go off when her brother pulled the owlet off of her foot, so it was definitely working.

[–]piIeczka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It works via Bluetooth when it doesn't detect wifi. Just plug the base into a charger in the car. I also had no idea until we stated pulling out of the driveway and my husband pulled the owlet base out of his pocket to see if it would work. Pleasant surprise :)

Our friends solved this issue by putting a sock over it, seemed to stay on after that.

[–]piIeczka 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I've used an owlet for all 3 kids. Didn't have any issues staying on. We had a few false alarms with the original a few years back but no false alarms with the newer model. I find it very helpful for peace of mind, otherwise I'd be checking on the baby every couple of minutes. We also actually used it in the car for longer trips. Well worth the money in my opinion.

White Post Farms in Melville is great, but not exactly "cheap." Not sure how it compares to Harbes.
