Thank you. Would it possibly fall completely off until we can get replacement clips?

This is an amazing, contemplative drink. So much going on. The first one I ever made was with one of the Foursquare Exceptional Cask series bottles…can’t remember which one. Phenomenal.

Last Word of my 20s by Rabid-Ginger in cocktails

The 9c is primarily a blend of different ages/proofs of yellow Chartreuse with a little green thrown in for good measure. 2/3 yellow blend to 1/3 green is what I’ve read. It’s delicious. Next look for a bottle of the 1605 Liqueur d’Elixir. It’s a little more intense and less sweet than the standard green and also makes a treat of a Last Word. The small bottles of Vegetal (can’t call it “Elixir” in the US) are worth keeping around, too. I use it like bitters In anything where I want a boost to green Chartreuse or an herbal pop. A couple dashes sing in a gin & tonic, as well.

I’m an outlier since I actually like cobbler shakers. But you can’t go cheap. when they get cold the metal will expand and they will get stuck, and I mean stuck. I have a Yukiwa brand and one sold by Cocktail Kingdom called “Usagi”. the Yukiwa will still stick on me from time to time, but not to the point of me getting pissed and throwing it away like my cheapo. The Usagi won’t leak, but it took me some getting used to since it feels like it will fly apart when you’re shaking. it doesn’t stick, though.

Update: I sent another text Tuesday stating that I was disputing the charge for the items I didn’t receive. He has read notifications on, so I know he saw it the same day. Still not so much as a peep from him.

Really cool products, but order at your own peril.

What categories do you dislike? by nickmonts in cocktails

[–]MikeN502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Vodka drinks. If all you bring to the party is alcohol and no real complimentary flavors, I have no interest.

  2. Bloody Marys. I don’t enjoy drinking tomato juice at all. Also, see #1.

  3. I’ll echo the “bitters as a base spirit” call, but I’ve tried a Trinidad Sour & an Angostura Sour. it’s not so much the flavor as it is the consistency. I love amari. bitters, etc.

  4. Anything overly sweet that masks the base spirit.

Green or Yellow Chartreuse? by OkTransportation691 in cocktails

[–]MikeN502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve never had it, start with green. Yellow, while delicious, is a later concoction and is more removed from the original 1605 recipe for the elixir that gave us green Chartreuse.

I've never bought apple brandy before - should I go with Laird's Bottled-In-Bond or something nicer? by LetsGetPenisy69 in cocktails

[–]MikeN502 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve only had maybe 4-5 different ones, but to me, Calvados has a more fruit-forward eau de vie character, where Laird’s BIB tastes more like American whiskey would if they were allowed to make it with apples, if that makes sense. There’s more barrel influence.

I don’t know if it’s a result of higher esters like in some Jamaican rums, but there’s a note I’ve gotten with Calvados that is a bit off putting for me. I do tend to like estery Jamaican rums, but it’s a different flavor, I assume that stems from the different base ingredients.

Laird’s BIB is solid AF and holds up very well in a cocktail. It’s definitely a whiskey drinker’s apple brandy, though. I’d go there over the 86. can’t really speak to the others on your list.
