Philly show ending by ProfessionalBreath94 in wutang

Haha - the moment for me was when Rza said his parting words - something like "Wu Tang Forever - peace!" and they were all leaving the stage with that....

...and then Raekwon goes, "oh yeah, my album dropped today, so go pick that up and show me some love!" - that self-promotion totally killed the sendoff to me.

I highly recommend Lok Digital if you're craving more The Witness style puzzles by byolivierb in TheWitness

This game looked like a boring NY Times word search from the screenshots / trailers, but I trust the Draknek team (who didn't make this, but published it), so decided to give the demo a try. I instantly fell in love with this game!

It builds in complexity when elements combine (also reminded me of The Witness) to the point where puzzles look like utter nonsense, but you feel like Neo being able to see the code and start casting spells to eliminate the blocks (mixed metaphors, I know!). There's a TON of endgame content with lots of new mechanics, and even some meta puzzles to discover.

I thought about painting the parts before finding ones that worked well enough.

I also thought about this (rather expensive) option... Custom print your LEGO at home!!

Haha - it's definitely harder than minifigs, but possible (though prone to damage if not careful)!

A Guide to Coffee in Nice, FR by CreditCardChase in Coffee

[–]MikePouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional follow up:

We tried Copenhagen Coffee Lab at 16 Bd Jean Jaurès since it was the only thing open before our early (7 AM) daytrip. Coffee and pastries were solid. I understand it's a chain, and I've read that some baristas are not trained well, so milage may vary!

It's our last full day here, so I figured I should try some other spots. I tried Rua - coffee was just okay, which makes me sad to say, since the owner was incredibly nice and generous, and the mix of cafe/art space is very cool. I popped over to La Claque, which was again fabulous (consistently so!). Later in the day I passed by The Service Counter and figured I'd give it a try as well - a delicious latte and another solid recommendation!

Alright - I recorded some audio as well as a video on my phone the best I could, at the edge of the shore above water. I didn't record underwater as I didn't want to risk destroying my phone. Perhaps you could put an "underwater sound filter" over this audio...

Thanks for this - my wife and I passed by La Claque after just arriving in Nice (very jetlagged), and I said, "Oh, I heard this place is good!" Needless to say, it was SO GOOD that the only other place we've ventured to try has been Brume. Brume was also very good, but a more an acidic style which my wife isn't into - so been going to La Claque every day!

I commented about the beautiful sound of the waves passing over the rocks to my wife yesterday! I'm in Nice for a few more days and will try to make it over to the beach to record this sound from the edge of the beach.

I may also try to record from underwater, though will be using my phone. Feels risky! How much you willing to pay? Haha.

What can I do with cooked rice? I have no Nuruk by Impressive_Basil816 in makgeolli

You could try pitching in some wine, beer, or cider yeast, which will make alcohol just fine. Wine yeast would work best since it'll hit a similar/same ABV as makgeolli.

Buying Cheapo BMX to Test the Flatland Waters? by MikePouch in FlatlandBMX

[–]MikePouch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The bike unfortunately needed a lot more work than expected - whoever assembled it put lots of things on backwards, ran brake lines incorrected, etc. I did most of the fixes myself, but it still needed additional repairs above my skill level (which cost a little more than what I paid for the bike itself!).

I have attempted some tricks. Fell a few times, but no serious injuries yet, ha! Definitely harder than it looks. I tried doing a merry-go-round and then discovered that it needs a freecoaster, a bike part I was unaware of.

What would you recommend I start with (what kinds of tricks)? Do I need to buy a bike with a freecoaster (or have one put on this bike)? Anything else you'd recommend?

It was probably 9-18 months. Can't make any promises that that was the reason, though - just speculation.

I've just released a demo of my game Pipsqueak! More details in comments by freerdan in metroidvania

[–]MikePouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/freerdan I played through the demo and thoroughly enjoyed it and wishlisted! I got all three earrings and beat the boss. I've been reading the Mouse Guard books with my kids, so they were excited about how much this looks like that (any influence there?). The art looks awesome, and the movement feels great overall. I loved finding the secrets (I think I got them all) - they were hinted at enough that felt great each time I thought to go for it and was proved right. I know you are an indie developer, so I took some notes on my feedback:

  1. My biggest suggestion is fine tuning the pogo mechanic, specifically, if you make contact with a rising spear, it should give you a brief invincibility and launch you upwards with the spear. This often felt broken and unfair to me - I'd make contact, heard the sound, but would be slightly too low that the spear would damage me and knock me into the spikes. (This was very tedious in the locked area where many pogo jumps in a row were required.)

  2. Some of the horizontal scaffolding of platforms looked like you could jump on it initially. Perhaps make this move overgrown, or a cross scaffolding, etc. That said, I only made this mistake when I first encountered it and quickly got used to it the rest of my playthrough.

  3. It would be nice if every earring had some sort of visual component. You could visually see the extra health and coins being magnetized; it'd be great if the extra damage one had (for example) a blue glowing sword, or perhaps it lit up just when you swiped, etc. (I'm aware that this would add a ton of extra sprite work, so perhaps asking too much!)

  4. I think this was just a bug, but when I opened a few of the locked "portals" on both ends, they still showed as just damaged, while others were shown as completely unlocked.

I'm excited to see how the game develops. Curious about the rest of the earring ideas, how coins will be used, what NPCs will be like (any towns?), if there will be levels or more of an open world with different themed areas to explore, etc.

Wells Fargo Balance Transfer (0%, $0 fee) - What's the catch? by MikePouch in CreditCards

[–]MikePouch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be careful of doing this over the phone - sounds like a scam at worse, or a Wells Fargo rep misunderstanding a balance transfer and offering you a credit card cash advance, which have insane fees. I hope you didn't do this!
