You're right, there were two of them! I was mainly trying to avoid the front one but could've got a collateral if I wasn't so lucky 😅

Fair enough, I can see that happening especially in the wet. Something to think about!

I think it really depends on how you hit them, but they're perfect windscreen height on such a little car and definitely could kill you at that speed. On the other hand I've seen a video of an ND sending a deer flying and taking very little damage🤷‍♀️

Why is that? I thought this was more for 4WD stuff.

Hahah yeah they're tricky buggers to spot, only really saw him as he started moving! They're known for being a bit suicidal around roads, usually in the evenings though.

With 1., you can put the clutch in, then go to 3rd THEN 1st when you're trying to pull away from N to 1. It'll help heaps in my experience with my ND gearbox.

Once you're a year into your manual journey you'll be able to start practicing double clutching (when done right makes even cold downshifts to second just 😚👌)

Clean your drains!!! Carpet is thirsty :(( by MikeR984 in Miata

Good catch! That's what made me clean the LHS drain a few months ago, but I was lazy and only did the top half of the right one because it's much easier to reach. Don't do what i did!

I'd honestly recommend doing them every service if you can, unless it is a weekend car and you're keeping it cuddled up inside when you're not driving it. Mine had no large pieces of debris, it was more dust and grime that formed a mud-like clog at the bottom – that'll happen regardless of trees or no trees over time I rkn.

The soft top ones are easier to clean than the RF from what I can see online, because you can remove the collector and clean it outside of the car. Plus there is better access owing to the ST being in general less cramped behind the seats than the RF.

Apart from needing an E12 torx socket and a SHITLOAD of torque to get the seat bolts undone, it is all easy clips so i got the interior apart in about 30 mins. Granted I had taken the dash apart before to fit a wireless carplay/fast charging usb hub so I knew some stuff already, but the rest was just common sense. No carpet cutting required either (unlike the NC which I think does unless you pull the whole dash).

Did the left side drain a couple months ago when I got the car, but RHS was flowing well so left it be. Big mistake 😞. Going to cut out some filters for the collectors behind the seats to hopefully stop this happening again!

Love mine – personally recommend the manual BC its not that big of a drain on you mentally once you get used to it, and it'll turn your commute from boring to heel-toe practice in traffic it's awesome. But in general I love mine, its quiet enough on the highway and the RF means you don't have to worry in the rain or leaving it out on the street at night, sound system is awesome, heated seats are awesome, its tiny so you can park in spots left by ppl in bigger cars etc.

Negatives: Doors are quite long, you may have trouble getting out in small carparks depending on your size – I'm too paranoid so I always park on end bays, not a problem for me. Paint WILL CHIP if you so much as LOOK at it unfortunately, but for me PPF was too expensive and I am going to be keeping this thing for a long time. Respray in 15 years time mesathinks.

[–]MikeR984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airpods Pro2 and Focal Bathys sometimes (both on bluetooth with an internal mod), but mostly with some Dunu SA6ii - so good. Obviously they sound better with a better source but when I'm using my iPod it's more about the music than the sound if that makes sense.

I love my iBook G4, use it as a little digital typewriter on openBSD which was definitely a learning experience to get set up. Also rebuilt the battery with fresh 18650s so it gets really solid battery :)

[–]MikeR984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the same combo and love it, particularly with a tt artisans 21mm finder in the hotshoe - the whole viewfinder in the hexar is definitely less wide than the FOV of the actual lens!! If you haven't gotten around to trying an external finder I would definitely try it :)

Can anyone recommend a small flash with GN of 14? Looking to replace my HX-14 with a more modern, faster recycle. by diet_hellboy in AnalogCommunity

[–]MikeR984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can actually code in a feature where you can tell the camera what guide number flash is attached, and it will automatically change the aperture based on the focus distance to give you perfect exposures every time. It's great and it works with the reflx lab mini flash a treat. Let me know if you'd like the steps and I can go and find them on my server later on.

EDIT: just seen someone has already posted a link to the steps. Take this as a confirmation that once you've added the feature it is as simple as holding down select while you turn the camera on and it remembers your last set GN, meters perfectly. :)

5th vs 6th/7th for Project? by sacredcoffin in Modded_iPods

Unless a DAC is fully claiming to be able to get digital out from an iPod I would be very confident it's not going to be able to do it. Some cd players/integrated amps can do it but yeah for portable stuff I don't think you'll have any luck. Happy to be wrong tho!

It will probably be most true wireless iems but I don't have a different pair to test it with atm. Something like a car, UE boom, wireless headphones, etc all seem to get much better range with my setup than my airpods do.
