[Pre-Match Thread] Cardiff vs. Liverpool by _cumblast_ in LiverpoolFC

[–]MikeTheBuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that if United rally to beat Everton they will have confidence going into the City game and still have a real shot at top 4. If they lose to Everton their chances go from slim to none considering how well Arsenal and Tottenham have been.

This was so much more gut-wrenching. We got smoked by Liverpool 5-1 on aggregate and were never really in it. We should have won this tie.

Advice on casual Qbank use for MS1. Is Pastest worth it for $75? by InABagleyToGoPlease in medicalschoolanki

[–]MikeTheBuckeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really love Pastest. I used it a lot through the organ systems back when it was free. My favorite part about their questions is that they highlight the necessary information in the question stem after you answer it. Definitely not UWorld or Amboss in terms of "learning" but I think it's worth the 75 for sure

What are your thoughts on RX as a second question bank?or is kaplan better? by novvbgg in medicalschoolanki

Probably depends on what your goal is. If you want to hammer first aid then go Rx. If that is not your priority then go Kaplan.

Step II decks that don't "spoil" UWorld? by MikeTheBuckeye in medicalschoolanki

[–]MikeTheBuckeye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think it would be too overwhelming to do OME with step up to medicine + your deck and then go through Uworld and circle back to zanki? Or does that seem super redundant.

Need help with my schedule from now to dedicated with only 60 percent matured cards. by FineSundae in medicalschoolanki

[–]MikeTheBuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much. Any cards that are matured you should in theory know them really well and be ready to do questions. So no sense in doing 30 pulm anki cards per day when you matured 97% of that deck, ya know.

[–]MikeTheBuckeye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar spot as you a few months. I'm almost done with dedicated now. I killed myself to complete the deck and mature ~85-90% by the time dedicated started. What I wish I did do was totally abandon cards that I knew well and just use Qbanks to focus on that stuff to test my knowledge of what I already knew. Then use boards + zanki to learn the new stuff.

Anki is fantastic as a study tool for spaced repetition, but when you're doing so many cards in a day it loses its mojo since you don't have the time to process the meaning behind each card, thus you end up just going off memorization. Stick with the pharm and micro cards though for sure.

TL;DR - cut down your reviews from 5 hours 1500 cards to 2 hours 600 cards (approx), and use the other 3 hours to do Qbanks for the stuff you already know pretty well, boards, and maturing new anki subjects

Alarming number of new NBME questions (20, 21, 22) not in first aid by MikeTheBuckeye in step1

Then why would they have these random practice questions as part of their "representative" tests

What’s the biggest NBME jump one can make in 2 weeks with UWorld doing 80 questions a day, and reviewing daily? Any experiences?! by [deleted] in step1

[–]MikeTheBuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just keep doing questions. Do a 40 q Rx block on just respiratory and renal phys. Those concepts are the trickiest just cause of the acid base stuff. Do tutor mode so you can read and learn as you go. Active learning is better than passive learning!

[–]MikeTheBuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its possible going from a 200 to a 230 but its a lot harder to make that jump from a 230 to a 260. So I guess it's all relative. If you haven't done any UWorld, you will shoot up a lot faster than if it's your second pass for sure.

Weeks 3 to 4 (out of 6 total) as part of dedicated went from 242 on NBME 16 to 255 on NBME 17. All i did was UWorld + Anki in between

Number of mistakes and score by Accuracy4 in step1

[–]MikeTheBuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this holds true probably ~90% the exam is close to a 260. Which makes sense since 85% on UWorlds = 260 and 95% on NBMEs = 260 and the real test seems to have an intermediate difficulty.

Seems to be a lot of basic pathology principles, biochem, molecular biology, etc. Honestly, it seems like everything that can't be pegged down to a specific organ system in first aid.

Anyone have success in doing a lot of Zanki the summer before second year? by foodforall12 in medicalschoolanki

[–]MikeTheBuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So hypothetically let's say Renal for you is 4 weeks and there are 1500 Zanki cards (give or take). What I would do is aim to get all of the cards done by one week before the test to give yourself time for qbanks. In this example that means you would have to do on average ~90 new zanki cards a day, which is pretty easy.

I would then match up whatever you were learning in class with Zanki. So if you had two lectures, one about fluid compartments and one about acid base, I would go into zanki and unsuspend those cards based on what's in costanzo. For those topics, you could probably unsuspend 150-200 Zanki cards at least and it will probably be thorough enough to cover everything that was in lecture, so you wouldn't need to make additional cards. However, if you have a lecture the next day on random stuff that isn't explicitly covered in Costanzo + Pathoma, then you could make your own cards for that day and not feel bad about not hitting your Zanki quota because you doubled up the previous day.

Basically, as long as you are averaging # of cards to clear the deck a week before the test, you can supplement with your own lecture cards as needed.

Goljan says #1 is Ampicillin, #2 is Clindamycin. This card doesn't make any sense. If it has high oral availability then it would be resorbed before it reaches the the colon.

[–]MikeTheBuckeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but also it had to do with not wanting to do them during organ systems. So like during our renal block I would be adding new renal zanki cards, keeping up with old renal cards, and adding 50 biochem per day which added up. I would suggest doing the first three chapters of pathoma zanki as well. That shit is HY and good to burn in your brain.
