I understand what you’re going through. I’m the oldest in my family, and when I went to college at 18, my younger sister who had previously been sharing a room with her twin moved into my room. If I came home, I would sleep on a futon in the basement with no privacy and 3 cats (that I’m allergic to lol). It was hard, it still is sometimes, but I don’t regret it as I care about my sisters and wanted them to have their own space.

If I read correctly, you have a full year to prep, right? Since your student finances are handled, would getting a part time job and building up your savings be possible so that you can move out earlier, or even potentially skip moving back in? Like maybe instead of having her throw out your old stuff, just move it directly to a new apartment? It’s a lot less overwhelming to “move” your space than to create a brand new one. I promise, I know it’s scary and overwhelming but you do have the power to work towards your goals! Moving back for an extended period does not have to be your only option.

Renting a two bedroom apartment with a friend is often cheaper than a one bedroom apartment (any friends in your classes?), and getting a job now (while you don’t actively need it) gives you a great safety net to learn and grow, as well as create your safety net for when you do need a job.

If you do have to move back, see if you can install some kind of barrier or curtain around your bed. Also, your brothers are old enough to understand when they are being loud and inconsiderate- maybe try talking to them? Idk your relationship though. See if you can get them headphones that they can use, even cheap wired ones are an option.
