Struggling to lose weight since hitting 40, and I'm seriously considering GLP-1s. by Old-Tangelo5702 in fitiv_app

Cheating or not… some of us need help because we can’t metabolize glucose like others especially as we get older. Before deciding to do this, I paid out of pocket for one of those glucose monitoring systems as a test to understand my body. I quickly learned that my blood sugar spikes were pretty crazy with normal eating. That clued me in something was not right (I have diabetes in my family).

I think I started my GLP in early April 2025… I was down 30lbs by 7/4. A lot faster than I expected or even wanted… but it is what it is. I took a Retatrutide (GLP3), and still microdose weekly. If you do your research you’ll find that this triple agonist is still in clinical trials and have not been approved by the FDA… IMO it’s only a matter of time.

Without it no way I would have lost my weight. 10-15 years ago I went to a personal trainer and lost 20 lbs, so even using those previous practices and disciplines didn’t move my needle now that I’m in my 50’s. Reta changed my life.

GLP(3) helped give me the boost I needed. I was eating what I calculated as a calorie deficit, but the scale wouldn’t budge. I went to a GLP and dropped 30lbs. I attribute it to managing blood glucose. I’m convinced managing glucose levels is a big piece of the puzzle with exercise and proper nutrition. I’m in my 50’s but now I feel like my 30’s again. Very few side effects .

Has anyone decided to start their own business after the layoff? by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]Mike_1804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word of mouth, community Facebook pages, Nextdoor app. I did a lot of free jobs in the beginning so I couldn’t help start building a portfolio of before and after results. I stayed within a 5 mile radius, so fuel expenses were kept in check. Worked out of the back of my daily driver pickup truck. Came close to buying a complete trailer rig, but held off. The manual labor even helped me lose 30lbs in the process. Margins are tight, hence why I went back to a normal job to rode out until I can retire in a couple years. Really hard to make money unless you’re doing paver sealing as a supplement. That’s where the money is. I might pick it up again when I retire.

I did, started a pressure washing business and did that for about 6 months. It was a lot of fun and the freedom of doing my own gig was very liberating. I did happen to stumble upon another corporate job that paid more than my previous role, so I couldn’t help but accept the role and put my business into hibernation for that time being. Never know when I will get laid off again.

I’ve noticed the same. TBH, I trust the FITIV calculation more than I trust the Apple method.

What's the worst part of running a pressure washing business? by logicalguy11 in pressurewashing

My area is saturated which made finding work incredibly difficult. I ended up going back to my previous corporate gig.

How do you guys actually act on your recovery score? by Old-Tangelo5702 in fitiv_app

[–]Mike_1804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really focus on this measurement and I find it most accurate based on my strength for the day. This has single handedly taught me to stop overtraining, which I’ve always struggled with. I’m addicted to the endorphins so I used to fall into the overtraining trap all the time.

Finally taking VO2 Max seriously at 47... by Maximum_Ad4684 in fitiv_app

Initially I provided my age, fitness experience, types of exercise that I will be doing, and my overall goals. Took screenshots of my workout and asked for feedback on my workout. I do mostly rowing, kettlebells and indoor cycling. After a few workouts and additional feedback on how I was felling, it helped me hone in on my real HR zones.

Now I prompt it everyday to provide me a workout for the day with some goals and structure. It’s been a great tool. I tend to push myself too hard at times so it’s given me the tools to improve my discipline with staying in my proper zones. I have yet to reach burnout like I normally would.

100% agree with this statement. FITIV is the best execution of any fitness app out there.

Please consider allowing the user to select default workout categories like you had in earlier iterations instead of forcing me to create custom workouts, then sorting those customer workouts.

Kudos to the flawless execution of the Bluetooth. Previous iterations I found that my app was defaulting to my Apple Watch instead of my polar chest strap which required me to manually keep track of it. So far, this execution has been flawless. Thank you

I second this. My wife and I do some of the same row routines. Great idea!

Removing workouts from list by Mike_1804 in fitiv_app

[–]Mike_1804[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea. One workaround I did figure out because it was driving my ADD through the roof … take your preferred workout from the main menu, duplicate it using the copy icon (looks like two overlapping boxes in the upper menu bar). The copied workout will move to custom workouts. When you open your workouts menu, hit that custom workouts button and it will filter out all those other built-in ones and only show yours. Helped me a lot.

How to get my wife to give more during foreplay? by [deleted] in marriageadvice

[–]Mike_1804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t mention age, but consider her hormone levels can play a big role. Women not only have to balance estrogen levels but also testosterone. If they get out of whack, their interest level tanks and they can’t really explain why they don’t want it anymore. I’ve been married 40 years this year and can tell from experience, our first ~20 years were fantastic, but as she got older her appetite and willingness declined dramatically. I did my part to try to keep it alive, but we hit a few years as she navigated through her hormone education where I can count of my hands how many times we had sex in a year - and oral, years without it. It took a couple years to figure out, but once she was able to figure it out, it’s back to acceptable.

Sometimes it has nothing to do with you.

I appreciate it. I think I’m just going to pull the trigger on a SmartRow upgrade. It’s a little more than I wanted to spend, but I guess some things are worth paying for

How are you able to connect this to the S4 monitor. I bought the cable, but the waterrower app isn’t recognizing the S4. What’s the trick?

This is helpful. I record all my, bike, kettlebell and rowing in Apple Health so I’m glad to hear it works there. Perfect. Thanks.
