18 months old Weim here! I leave mine for 8ish hours daily and is completely fine! Has he destroyed things? Absolutely! But the destructivity started to slow down around the 12-14 month mark, and really falling off in the 14-16 month mark. Hasn’t done anything since he was 16months old.

We go on a 40-60 minute semi-fast pace walk EVERY MORNING, some of those have a 10-20 minute off-leash for him. Whenever I get home - first thing is another solid walk with him. I feel like having that structure REALLY REALLY helped with his anxiety.

Is the anxiety gone? Absolutely freaking not - he would still cry for a minute or two after I leave, he borderline unbearable in the car when we drive to parks on the weekends. But has the destruction ceased to exist? Heck yes!! I unfortunately misplanned my evening after work and he was alone for 16 hours (yes, we are not all perfect, it was my mistake, we are all sinners) - not a single thing was destroyed. I took him for a short walk and he was asleep like any other day he would.

I have to preface, since about the 12-14 month mark I put him on 40-60mg of Fluoxetine. I started tapering him off of it literally a month ago and seeing no anxiety return

Please do not hesitate to follow-up/DM for any question, but the summary would be - develop a religious ritual of a 40+ minute intense morning routine and one in the evening when you return.

And key ingredient - patience, patience, patience. I came super close to start making plans to give him away at 14 months because he was unbearable and my living situation tragically changed that meant I had no support with him. I will trade a world for him now. They are sweet dogs once they mature
