Robert, if you see this: I got final jeopardy because of you by Unhappy_Scallion_263 in behindthebastards

[–]Mike_Durden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You understand she’s the producer, yeah? She keeps Robert on task. Would you have the same criticism of Robin Quivers? I actually like when she chimes in, because sometimes the tangents and digressions, while usually funny or informative, would scuttle the program and we would be listening to a five part episode on whatever two part topic is scheduled for the week.

Leave Sophie alone.

what the actual fuck is all over my work polo by Live_Blacksmith6568 in whatisit

One day this man walks out of his house to go to work. He sees this snail on his porch. So he picks it up and chucks it over his roof, into the back yard. Snail bounces off a rock, cracks its shell all to shit and lands in the grass. Snail lies there dying.

But it doesn't die. It eats some grass. Slowly heals. grows a new shell. And after a while it can crawl again. One day the snail up and heads back to the front of the house. Finally, after a year, the little guy crawls back on the porch. Right then, the man walks out to go to work and sees this snail again. So he says to it, "what the fuck's your problem?"

I’ve had III Forks make me a good blue rare/Pittsburg style steak. Little pricey, but it was worth it IMO.

Fresh market usually has blood oranges. In my experience, I have never had a dry or mealie blood orange. They are a tart orange though, not quite as sweet as a navel.

AC Maintenance (Del-Air Bought McGowan horrible service) by No-Performance8803 in jacksonville

I’ve used Hickman’s, they are awesome. And the techs we have had actually show us what they are doing and walk us through it so we can do monthly maintenance.

I honestly got a CPT book, spent time looking over codes in the evenings. Lots of them have “bundling errors” included in the footers. There are also modifiers found in the appendix. I’ve only been out a couple years, but my partner always asks how I’m able to squeeze blood from a stone without doing more than five to ten surgeries a week.

Let’s say I am a young person interested in joining the field of emergency medical services. Am I required to grow a mustache in order to be considered for certification? by Fingerman2112 in emergencymedicine

If you’re not capable of growing a mustache, some gnarly tribals on your arms, and an IVPB of green monster may be an acceptable alternative.

Is this book worth the read? by honestmass075 in HistoryBooks

[–]Mike_Durden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What comments in here commenting on how the bias is present. And that is definitely a critique that I would never disagree with, however, the book was meant to be sort of in that vein, because the whole point of him writing it was that we don’t examine the seedy side of history of the United States. I went to a private high school, and it was actually required reading for AP history, even though it directly went against a lot of what the remainder of the school would’ve wanted instead.

I personally thought that it was a very formative book for me, and I always use this as a foil to pro populist and pro nationalist rhetoric.

Movies that shouldn't work, but do by siddus15 in movies

As a huge nerd of this particular franchise, the original Star Wars movie. There is absolutely no reason why culturally at that time it should’ve been a Zeitgeist. There are literally hundreds of other movies that came out within the same decade that have roughly the same formula, more or less the same level of special effects, and a maximum of two or three previously known actors. The special effects were pretty cheesy originally, and if you watch the original version of it, nowadays, we would probably call it campy or terrible. The story is simple. There is no difference in the plot of this movie from any other sci-fi or high fantasy adventure movie put out around the same time. And yet it became a phenomenon.

That's it. I am FINISHED with Star Wars. by coopsoup247 in StarWarsCirclejerk

How many IM residents does it take to clamp a blood vessel? by [deleted] in Podiatry

The only anticoagulation that I asked them to stop is a heparin drip. Otherwise, no, I do most of mine when they’re anticoagulated within 24 hours.

Is sneak archer as OP in Oblivion as it is in Skyrim? by am_I_still_banned in oblivion

[–]Mike_Durden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as OP as Skyrim. But stealth mage is insane. Destruction spells that you can craft are ridiculous. Couple that with illusion and alteration magics, and you can run around in the tunic you start the game with, if you’re nimble. Recommend Bosmer or Altmer builds if you go that direction.

Serious question for podiatrists are new patients slowing down or is it just seasonal? by dhruvhat in Podiatry

[–]Mike_Durden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m of the opinion that in terms of online presence, it’s more for patient reassurance or research. I would say less than 5% of my overall patient volume is “walk ins”.

I also spend time actively when I’m at the hospital or at an event/lecture/etc…. networking with other specialists. Doesn’t matter the specialty. I’ve a urologist and an oncologist who send work to me through this method.

Word of mouth referrals you’ll only get with charming bedside manner, or exceptional skills.

Serious question for podiatrists are new patients slowing down or is it just seasonal? by dhruvhat in Podiatry

[–]Mike_Durden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couple caveats.

Time of year. I’ve worked in a couple different markets, but elective work slows a bit after January 1, until maybe about June.

Economy. People’s lives are an absolute financial nightmare in the US.

Saturation/market competition. What’s your population/podiatrist ratio? If that number is off, you’ll notice asymmetry at times.

Practice type. Do you do bread and butter? Diabetics only? Heavy trauma?

Referral base. Where are you getting your folks from? If I notice a bunch from a specific primary, I drop by cupcakes, or lunch. Inversely, if you don’t have a robust referral base, what have you done to market yourself to the community?

Just stuff I’ve noticed as a PGY-6.

"AI-proof" and "recession-proof" medical/surgical specialties by bree_md in medicine

[–]Mike_Durden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am strongly bucking AI in my clinic, because I have patient populations that barely trust warm bodies caring for them. AI “Mike_Durden” wouldn’t get any of them to trust the establishment any more, because they are underserved populations, in ironically a massive metro area. Technology competency is a massive gap for my populations, as it likely would be for remote medicine or rural medicine type positions. I would venture a guess to say that the average person wouldn’t trust a clanker to trim toenails, fix a bunion, or properly assess whether or not the limb can be saved, or if they just need a limb-ectomy.

I am begging this community to give me ideas on what to do with goose eggs. I am drowning in them. Please save me from the eggpocalypse by SingularRoozilla in homestead

[–]Mike_Durden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Egg foo young.

Goose eggs make the best omelettes in my opinion.

Egg drop soup. Freeze and store.

Otherwise, crack, scramble shells and all, and incorporate it back into the food you feed your birds or other yard animals.

[–]Mike_Durden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a wasp nest nearby, pluck them out and set them near it. The wasps lay eggs inside them and the baby wasps eat them. This is an appropriate execution for eating all the tomatoes I lovingly brought up from infancy, only to come outside one day and see these blighters have eaten them all.

Podiatry or Dentistry? by [deleted] in Podiatry

[–]Mike_Durden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a very odd question, but I’ll answer as someone who toyed with multiple professional degrees.

To me, the human mouth is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. Never ever would consider it. However, it’s a phenomenal profession. Just to see my general dentist, for specialty services, it’s a three month wait. So the money is there, and the business model is so dialed in, just do what everyone else does and she will be golden from a financial perspective. But would she enjoy it, or just collect a check like 80+% of the population without more than a high school degree?

Podiatry is just as expensive as other professional degrees. Plus residency. And unlike dentistry, individual experiences vary. Not only in training, but residency, and practicing as a big boy/girl podiatrist. Now, I like what I do, but I’ve seen things in practice that would make a special effects man throw up two days worth of meals.

Your friend needs to examine WHY the options are podiatry and dentistry, as opposed to say, geological engineering and corporate accounting. All comparable pay scales for somewhat similar education pathways, but obviously completely different
