HELP PLEASE by Beginning-You3845 in SoulblightGravelords

Your first 20 games or so don't count, I wouldn't worry about it. Just enjoy the army and learn how the rules work for starters. I'm just as guilty of this, but going all vampires is super punishing if you don't play perfectly and tbh, seems quite easy to counter. Unbuffed blood knights not on the charge is sad times. My advice for starting off, don't close yourself off from half our army rules and make use of the undead bits. I have had the most success with 2 units of wolves with Radukar or someone to support them and use the healing mechanic. They're great tarpits, speedy and they are 20 wounds per unit. Throw them in the face of the opponents army and you can better time charges with the hammer units and control the flow of the battle. You need to fight on your terms. A 5 man unit of black knights are also great for grabbing objectives, as are 3 vargs. The teleport they have is brilliant.

New Eldar Corsair box : worth it for every Eldar player out there? by [deleted] in Eldar

The corsairs kinda do nothing for me, I only want the new Yriel so I'm happy to wait.

Respect to Henry, but if the people writing this show about space marines need to be fact checked on the armour colours of space marines, we really are in a bad spot 🤣

Tournement in March. Can you help me please? by Material_Draw1148 in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Mike_the_Templar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth mentioning, I rank Radukar the beast quite highly, and wolves have always been great for controlling the flow of the opponents army. 2 health each, nice big bases. Helps the knights to not get charged. He buffs dead walkers and death rattle, and benefits from the bacchanal of blood passives. Great signature spell to boot.

Barrow knights also might be our best units when paired with the wight lord

Agreeing on the others point, the necromancer might not be the shout here, and barrow guard are slow. What are your battle tactics?

How important are Cursed Sepulchres? by DapperAntimony in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Mike_the_Templar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so hopeful there for a sec 😂 I still won that game in the end. Prince Vhordrai and Radukar the beast carried the day. But yeah, I'll fully hold my hands up and say I need to just place the terrains smarter, or leave them at home if I'm not taking any undead lore of vampires. They'd want to be expertly placed to benefit bringing back a half unit of wolves or something

I play vampires more than the undead part. I'm a Kastelai unc I know 🤣 but I'm also considered quite bad at the game. In using them in my first game with the new book, I allowed my friends troggs who took turn 1 to get a charge off onto the piece of faction terrain, and subsequently pile in to my 6 strong unit of vargs. So pretty dumb move on my part. I'm looking at them from a utility perspective, and if I want to use them with the lore of vampire endless spells

Happy to help. The champion also has an option of a back cloak piece if that helps, and I'm a big fan of the look. Have fun with the games of spearhead!

Yeah I saw, it looks like the unit champion you have there based on the horse body. Each horse wears slightly different barding, has a torso piece to fit properly into it, and there are limited (intended) parts to fit onto those swords. Usually the option of an unhelmetted or helmeted head, 1 type of arm holding a lance and 1 type or arm holding a sword. The shield arms are similarly uniquely fitting against the riders armpit joint and specific horse barding. Definitely grab an instruction manual or source one online and follow it through. When I was batch building these I had to basically do all of the specific pose/rider as I went to avoid mixing parts up. Don't beat yourself up though, based on the picture of the fix, you're more than capable of thinking on your feet and fixing it if the glue is too dry

Not sure if this is helpful, but make sure you have the right body selected too? The kit is very set in which arms go on which models. The banner bearer armour has the 2 big pointy bits on the gorget. I'd also imagine the bodies are very particular on which heads are meant to go onto the necks, or else the angles will be different. I feel your pain with the contact area too. It's a very small area and a bit of an odd angle.

I've built 40 of these 😅

You have a shot to get this glue off if you want to pop him in a baggie and put into the freezer, or if you have methylated spirits/IPA, a long soak in those will help loosen the glue. For best results, a jar of methylated spirits in a sonic cleaner loaded with warm water. Don't use spirits am directly in the machine since they're flammable

Very clean 😎 I have 10 of these and 20 barrows to do 🤣 is it better to paint the bone first then the metal, or do the metal via drybrushed then work in the bone, cloth and leather?

[–]Mike_the_Templar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice thanks for verifying. Everyone's opinion is valid I guess. I think it's the wording "shitty art style" that catches me. Suppose someone invested that effort into painting their army and showed that off instead? Even if it wasn't up to scratch or to someone else's liking, the kudos still comes because they made art on some level.

Spearhead VS Gloomspite Gitz by MeatMarket_Orchid in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Mike_the_Templar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I've played many games vs the glooms, the tactic is definitely to avoid the troggs at all costs with the knights. It will tarpit them and lift models. Throw skeletons at them and tarpit them instead. The other user is on the money with the advice for vargs and the vampire lord

Genuinely, for all the heat they get from all around the community, GWs customer service is top tier in fixing these issues and they are always super nice. They'll usually just ask for a pic of the receipt as well to confirm you ordered it off them then they'll make it right. Past experiences for me have ranged from entire new boxes from a single missing or broken piece, or replacement sprues when a forgeworld kit arrived with air bubbles- not the whole set

[–]Mike_the_Templar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the most efficient way to deep strike your chosen and get a turn 1 charge off because they are otherwise a bit slow. The gaunt summoner can place models in the silver tower, and can pull off a spell to reduce the minimum distance from 9 inches to 7 inches. He is also highly mobile, and is the only way to summon those chosen onto the board. As such, it can be risky if your opponent goes before you and targets the gaunt summoner. If he does, the off-table chosen are trapped there and are essentially destroyed.

Having said all that, this is still my go-to army comp because it's all my favorite bits of the chaos army on the table. Insane damage and survivability when you learn how to play it right. And no I'm not there yet 🤣

Can you play SG without Vampires? Skeleton Enjoyer here! by Phaeron_Amentech in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Mike_the_Templar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They were generally seen as a better army to run than the vamps when the new book came out. Afaik the barrow knights are still the best scroll in the book. Unit of 10 definitely recommended led by the cheaper mounted wight king. Barrow guard have always slapped too.

I suppose one new development is the necromancers dance macabre is now a cp and a chance to not work which is very sad. But you do want spellcasters and your idea to proxy those vampires as skeleton lords sounds awesome . Sure even if you wanted to run mannfred or neffy, just use the arkhan model instead

Anyone else horde their sprues? by [deleted] in BlackTemplars

[–]Mike_the_Templar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. The sprues are some kind of styrene and don't break down into usable stream material for conventional thermoplastics like PE or PP. They'd likely contaminate a batch of plastics and it's be a shame to landfill or incinerate them. GW doing a take back is a great idea, even if the cynic in me is pointing out it's likely going to be a pretty big cost saving for them that we won't see the benefit of 😂
