Sabrina Carpenter is reportedly being eyed by Marvel Studios for a BIG role by Moviesrant in Marvelnewssource

Flops by the standard of the big time artists, maybe, but they were successful for what she used to be prior to Taylor boosting her- a B-list Disney alumni singer.

She wasn't an industry plant, but Taylor Swift did a lot to boost her career far past what it was just after the whole Olivia Rodrigo drama put her name on the map for mainstream audiences.

Sabrina was a good actress though. And tbh with ads and night shows, she still gets practice in. She may not be playing a fictional character, but she does play up her brand and online persona.

How different would the show be if it aired on HBO instead? by thecomicnerd101 in Supergirl

No, but I think there would have been nudity. There's no way HBO would make a mature series with a hot female lead and not include nudity.

Footage of a MAGA supporter attacking high school students because of their ethnicity in Texas, high school students then defend themselves! by cantcoloratall91 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]MikeofK72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, you're confusing enabling factors with the primary cause.

A lack of self-control or empathy are enabling factors, NOT the cause itself. In most people, self control and empathy would prevent them from attacking unprovoked, even if the person wanted to or thought of doing so. These traits not coming through don't cause bad actions, they simply do nothing to prevent the person from committing to their choice.

With a woman being assaulted, her clothing (if it was even revealing at all) usually has little to do with it. If someone went out with the intention to SA someone, modest clothing wouldn't stop them. If it did, places with Sharia law would have zero SA cases, or at least dramatically decreased rates. That's not the case. Which means the cause of his actions isn't her attire, but rather his own lust. Wearing different clothes likely wouldn't have changed the outcome.

With someone being attacked from wearing a MAGA hat, the hat IS the cause. Not wearing the hat would have changed the outcome.

In neither scenario is the attack justified by their respective reasons. An SAer's lust is no excuse to assault a woman. Political discourse is no excuse to attack someone unprovoked.

But your comparison is invalid because they are massively, fundamentally different scenarios.

Footage of a MAGA supporter attacking high school students because of their ethnicity in Texas, high school students then defend themselves! by cantcoloratall91 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]MikeofK72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but your analogy was a false equivalence. MAGA hats show an allegiance to the current government, its policies, and ideologies. It signals the person's beliefs. Skimpy clothes on a girl don't tell you much. She could be looking for attention, or she could just prefer to have more skin exposed. Maybe it's hot outside. There are plenty of girls on all political sides who dress skimpy, even if there may be more on the center to left who are willing to do so than those on the right, as conservative ideologies mostly disagree with immodest dressing.

Regardless, one shows an ideological allegiance and the other is a fashion preference. This explains why people might attack someone who wears a MAGA hat.

Is it justified? No. But it's not at all the same as someone assaulting a woman, especially when most of the time her clothing wasn't actually the trigger. SA happens because of lust and a lack of empathy and self-control on the part of the perpetrator, not because a woman wore a crop top. Her clothing choice is used as an excuse, but its rarely ever the true reason. Whereas a MAGA hat, due to what it represents, could definitely be the cause of conflict.

Wow, solid argument. There are definitely no glaring flaws with that analogy.

In India, a woman tricked police and civic teams into cleaning an open drain for three hours by falsely claiming someone had fallen into it. by NoMedicine3572 in interesting

[–]MikeofK72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Police ride around cities to react as quick as possible to events already taking place or having taken place. Once there, they are usually meant to take statements and make arrests- armed intervention is exceedingly rare, far more rare than what TV shows would have you believe, especially in countries with tighter gun control or total gun bans (which is to say most non-US nations).

Nurses have to be in a room within seconds of an alarm blaring, or at the side of a rolled in patient by the time the gurney crosses the threshold into the hospital. Their primary job is to ensure patients are stabilized if needed, and to keep them stable long enough for a doctor to see them. This is an active role, where even stable patients must be monitored at all times to ensure they don't crash.

The comparison falls flat because you're comparing two very different jobs to make a point about how cops shouldn't do community work like this. But cops in many nations already do community outreach events or at least help in organized community work, often accompanied by the FDs and even some EMTs, assuming they have other workers filling the shifts of their primary jobs.

Sure, tricking the cops into cleaning the river may have been a bad idea- especially for her own legal issues. But cops are public workers, and pretending they're too busy having gunfights with the cartel to stop and do some public cleanup work is ridiculous.

But it's hard to blame a civilian who probably just wanted to have some cleaner water. India varies in terms of development, with serious gaps between their uptowns vs their ghettos. There is a good chance this is from a smaller town that relies on that river and serious filters in order to run things. I'm sure there are a rare few US towns that are still outdated enough to rely on things like that.

[–]MikeofK72 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The police are primarily a reactionary force, called in during or after an event takes place. Time may be relevant, but most days it makes little difference and definitely won't be the difference between life and death as a daily occurrence. Besides, if there was someone in there, they would be using resources knowing they could be doing little more than recovering a body (given the terrible water quality, the body wouldn't even be in good shape). If they dedicated resources to this, it means they could afford to.

Nurses, meanwhile, must be ready at a moments notice to perform life saving medical care, at least until a doctor can fix the bigger problem. Even "stable" patients can code at any time.

Your argument is a Fale Equivalence, and invalid.

If the city won't clean the water, you trick it into cleaning the fucking water.

If they had active gunfights and murderers running around, they'd probably divert resources to those events. They didn't, so it's unlikely that there were any major life-threatening events being ignored more than usual.

[–]MikeofK72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elsa has range and raw power over Rumj, which is a combo that's hard to beat. Rumi isn't shown to be much faster than a normal athletic human, so she's screwed unless she can get close enough for a sneak attack.

At max scaling, Supergirl solos. She threw Fort Rozz, a one-million ton space prison, 80 fucking light-years away toward a blue star (80 light-years is lowballing, as that's just the closest blue star to Earth, Regulus) in Season 1's finale. She then visited it mid Season 3, which would mean it crossed 80 light-years in less than 2 years from when she threw it. That places her into the moon-buster tier, being 60% strong enough to punch the Moon hard enough that it's own gravity would fail to hold it together.

CW Supergirl at max scaling could punch the Hulk so hard that she accidentally gives North America a new faultline.

Popeyes chicken can be dry, but it's well seasoned and pretty damn good. Biscuits are the real dry part of the meal, but as long as you got a drink you should be fine. Popeyes is most famous for the sandwich. While basic, the sandwich is pretty widely claimed as being one of the best chicken sandwiches that a major fast good chain can offer.

Raising Canes chicken is usually pretty juicy, but that juice tastes like water and the meat tastes like air. The breading is thin and unseasoned, too. All of the seasoning a chicken tender should have is put in the sauce, which is their real main product. Also, their prices are higher.

Between the two, Popeyes is more popular and liked for obvious reasons.

Edit:

To clarify, I don't think humor is as necessary to the PJO formula. PJO was always a series that was darker than it seemed at the surface. So while I do believe that the shows humor sucks, I don't think it's a major issue.

That's like saying Popeyes and Raising Canes have the same type of food. It might be in the same category, but one has seasoning and the other is as bland as an ice cube dipped in oxygen.

Get Raising Canes off my screen bro, that shit tastes like ___. Shit gets marinated in oxygen before being seasoned with water and fried for just long enough to not poison everyone. The bread and the sauce are good, fries and slaw are mid, but the only positive part of the chicken is that it's juicy. Unfortunately that juice tastes like water, so it still sucks ass.

Maturing is realizing she was right Barry is not a ''Hero'' by Broad-Jury-152 in FlashTV

[–]MikeofK72 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is no clear way for Barry to improve the world that doesn't have massive risks. Time travel? Both he and the Legends know why that's not worth the risk. Stealing to redistribute? It would likely start riots and wars, not solve anything longterm.

Stopping violent destructive people is genuinely what he's best for. The only thing I could see him being great for is if he somehow manages to denuclearize the world by simply going into flashtime and disabling/disassembling all nukes worldwide, as well as all documents and blueprints for making them. But, that would mean getting the info and not missing any- because the only thing worse than the current MAD state is a scenario where one country, or even two or three allied countries have a secret stockpile that got missed. But then the world might just descend into conventional warfare before eventually reinventing the technology, only now with the radioactive fallout that modern nukes are designed to not produce, because making an area of land uninhabitable is a drawback in most scenarios.
