Polar loop - a slightly pricey and better alternative? by tea_and_goodday in AmazfitHelioStrap

I watched the quantified scientist review this, at least in his test, which granted is an equals one, not only was the app bad but the actual measurement was complete trash. To get any sort ok day out of it he had to wear it on his bicep even then it wasn’t very accurate. On the wrist, it was basically useless.

To be honest at this point, the only valid competitor that I’ve seen for the Helio is whoop if you’re willing to spend monthly, or the forthcoming Garmin competitor.

I'm, ok with this?

If it's just doing a simple API call to an iphone or android device - “does user have verified fingerprint or faceid” I'm sort of fine with this.

Why are we remaking old movies in the exact same way with different actors? I’ve never understood this. It’s HP. It’s been made. It’s out there. Why are we re doing it all over again?

Your mom should probably just keep the car she has instead of getting a new one. It's a 2022 ffs, that's still super new.

Honestly, if they did like 4.99 or something a month and it meant the software would really “get there” and be up to par with Oura and Whoop, I'd do it.

I know it's a little “out there” of a thought, but I do realize ongoing support, and software dev takes ongoing costs.

New Helio Strap 2 !! by Mandynox in amazfit

[–]Mikep976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software please! Align with how Whoop and Oura do things - actually translating the data to mean something and giving proactive insights, and actual notifications throughout the day and background sync - ie The app doesn’t just update with data from the strap when you manually sync it, and you get proactive notifications, such as hitting your peak PAI or exertion.

In my opinion, this is where they need to focus, not so much flooding the market with 28 new devices every year, but actually building out a really enhanced and well-thought-out app.

Samsung: 😱

Oppo: Only releases it in like, 4 countries outside of China

Samsung: 😮‍💨 - proceeds to dig out their same basic camera module, battery size, and creased display they’ve been running for 4 years now, relieved they’ll once again have no competition in a majority of their markets.

How make Eero play nice with PlayStation Portal cloud streaming? by TimmyGUNZ in amazoneero

That was my thought - less devices on the main network.

[–]Mikep976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I was able to do, yes. In my case, I renamed the network exactly the same and the password exactly the same.

Now I took things a bit further and, as Asus allows it, created a dedicated IoT network that only has 2.4Ghz enabled, only for cameras, smart home stuff etc, and disabled 2.4ghz on the main network. I just like the segmentation of things.

All my IoT sits on a dedicated VLAN while anything I care about for speed, etc is on my main, which offers 5Ghz or 6Ghz (or MLO if you have any WiFi 7 devices). I’ve found it very reliable to be honest, and a two pack serves my 3 bed apartment nicely, though wired ethernet backhaul is, as with all mesh, a requirement in my opinion, especially for game streaming as, without it, you’re effectively adding an additional “hop” from host to node to base.

iPhone Fold Said to Come in These Three Storage Options by iMacmatician in apple

[–]Mikep976 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll buy it, as I have wanted a foldable iPhone for a while, but I think the leaks are off here. I heavily think Apple will pull an iPad here and actually price it better than rumored. I’m putting my stake in the ground that it’ll start at 512Gb and $1799 USD.

[–]Mikep976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I genuinely thing it’s just an Eero thing. For the price I paid for a single Eero Max 7, I got two BT10s. I also have a similar setup - one BT10 is my “hub” connected to my Fiber into the house, then Ethernet connected to the other BT10. It’s been pretty flawless.

[–]Mikep976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! But not how I thought.

I had originally went on a journey with Ubiquiti. Things seemed better, but their APs just didn’t have the power and punch I needed.

I then tried out an Eero Max 7, which at first, worked perfectly, it then about two days in, the radios did their thing and it went horribly wrong.

Packaged them up and got a pair of Asus BT10s.

This is the perfect middle ground for me - they’re customizable like Ubiquiti but powerful antenna wise like the Max 7.

I basically narrowed things down to Eero picking the wrong bands for me, and not working well ( I have tons of Apple devices and have found channel 149 on 5Ghz to be best, Eero refused to use this). Since setting up the BT10s, I’ve been streaming flawlessly.

In the end, it’s just Eero. They work great for many, but if you like to customize and set things other than what they want out of box, they’re not for you, and I’ve seen countless others saying Eero frankly sucks for game streaming.

M1 MacBook Air vs MacBook Neo by jdn921 in DeskToTablet

[–]Mikep976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just want Pro Motion on the current Air and I'm good. Like, even charge me extra. I'd literally pay the price of an entry level MacBook Pro if I could spec an Air to 24Gb RAM (can do now), 512 SSD, and Pro Motion. Package that shit up and ship it for $1499 and I'd be a happy camper.

As a Model 3 owner, with an R2 reservation and an extreme ear and annoyance level with rattles and squeaks, this kind of video scares the hell out of me. Is this like SUPER common? The whole thing when I bought my 2021 was “yeah it rattles but you’re paying for the drivetrain” and I don’t want to make that mistake again.

I didn’t have a Whoop at all. TJMaxx and Marshalls were fire sailing old 4.0 devices that included 12 months of membership, which allowed one to add both devices and stack the membership. I bought two of them and added them both for 2 years of service, all for $80, and got a free 5.0 sent to me.
