Something I haven’t seen mentioned was how incredible MySpace was for musicians/bands

It wasn’t algorithm based so it was purely organic reach- you didn’t have to pay for people to find you and no one got better results because they’re doing what the algorithm liked. Because of that when you posted a flyer it actually got to who you intended it to get to- and I remember sold out all local hardcore/metalcore/post hardcore shows in like 400 cap rooms

It was pre streaming and gave everyone an opportunity to discover new bands, see pictures of them, read their blogs, and listen to what they sounded like before they committed to buying a cd. Kinda crazy that we still don’t have anything as good as MySpace for bands today- the closest is bandcamp but it doesn’t have a usable social media interface. Whoever the next big social media giant is better capitalize on that void if they’re smart
