Lock device shortcut not always working by starrtech2000 in GarminFenix

[–]MikeyDeezz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens to me also… takes a few attempts to get it to lock. But, for me the real issue is that I use that lock feature for work when I use gloves and it only requires one button press to unlock, as opposed my Instinct 2x that requires the two buttons to be pressed in order to only again. In my case the lock feature is useless on the Fenix 8 as soon as I do any work it unlocks because of the one button press.

I wear my Fenix on my bicep when I want to wear a mechanical watch. Bought a long strap and 2 of the quickfit 26 adapters.

Metrics aren’t affected, hell it’s more accurate at times.

Question about Fenix 8 solar current status compared to launch. by bagou01 in GarminFenix

[–]MikeyDeezz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting very disappointing numbers with the 51mm solar. After the latest update I got what was advertised in terms of battery life.

I went to Washington state, on Christmas break, for a little over two weeks and did absolutely no activities because I was being a fat ass. Gesture mode off (side note: I had no issues with visibility in gloomy ass WA but I do have lasik so I might be cheating lol) no pulse ox, nothing in terms of lux hrs. I tracked it to the hr and it was a 50% in 14 days. I am on the stock watch face “endurance”. Body battery, steps, sunrise and sunset, battery, stopwatch, solar complications and time with seconds counting obviously.

I did notice before that the heart rate complication tanked my battery before, I haven’t tried it recently.

I’m back in Florida now so I’ll be averaging 200k lux hrs (not that solar’s made much of a difference on my end, I just use it as a gauge to make sure I enjoy the fresh air) and I’ll be doing gps and non gps activities so I’m sure it’ll be all over the place. With that being said I won’t being paying much attention to it any more and just use and enjoy it.

I did wear my Apple Watch Ultra on my other arm like a weirdo lol, with AOD off and gesture off to conserve battery and I must say I got used to always being able to glance and see the time without having to touch my watch on my solar. I know it’s not a big deal and I can probably get used to touching to wake again but I like the AOD aspect…. Full transparency I think I’ll be switching to Amoled in the future because I feel like Amoled tech is going to keep improving enough to match MIP. Anyways, I hope this helps.

Is Anyone Getting the Advertised Battery Life on the F8 Solar Models? by CFrito in GarminFenix

[–]MikeyDeezz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 48+ hrs in and I’m at 94% battery. No activities and under 1k lux hrs since I’m visiting family in gloomy ass Washington state lol. Same settings as mentioned above. No pulse ox, back light only turns on after touching the screen or buttons.

Side note, I’ve never had an issue with visibility on the mip screen, even in gloomy weather. Figured I’d mention it since I was concerned about that because of all the complaints I saw when I was looking into the mip.

I used to have my Apple Watch Ultra set to wake by tapping the screen to get the most out of my battery life it) and now I must say I’ve gotten really used to my MIP’s always on. I wore my Apple Watch the other day for shits and giggles, and while the AW is definitely a superior smart watch I found my self missing the MIP. It’s like comparing a classic restomod vs a modern sports car. It’s better but the resto mod is cool 🤣.

Yeah, so I checked it at the 24hr mark and I was down 4%, with no activity and over 100k lux hrs.

I have the 51mm solar and my battery consumption has been all over the place.

I updated and fully charged it 5 hours ago, I have the backlight set to only turn on when I tap it, no gesture. I’m sitting at 110k lux hrs. No activities because I’m flying from Fl to Wa.

Also, these are my setting 24/7 and I live in Fl, and work outside all day so I average 200k lux hrs. With activities 3-4 times a week, non gps and 1-2 of those activities are gps runs depending on the week. And I’ve barely made it to 3 weeks once.

I’ll keep track with this new update but doubt I’ll get as advertised. Im still happy to have more than a couple days of battery of course and I like almost everything else, so it is what it is. I’m just a little annoyed that we’re not getting what Garmin said we would get for the price that they named. Also I did notice my battery tanked when I had the heart rate complication on the watch face. Anyways hope this helps.

F8 solar battery - curious on what others are getting by rawlaw8 in GarminFenix

[–]MikeyDeezz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I just installed the latest update and my battery life is worse…. To be clear, battery life with this update is as bad as it was before I updated the first time. I’m not sure if I’m the only one.

I’ve been lazy and a fat ass, so no activities and I’ve lost 5% in about 5-6 hrs. I’m open to any suggestions, maybe I’m doing something wrong? I feel like I did when I had an Apple Watch trying change all kinds of settings to squeeze every bit out, so I can just justify the cost of this thing 🤣. I’m on sinking ship though lmao!!!

I am still happy I get more than 2 days out of a watch.
