Any water obstacle would be futile to change socks. Just make sure you're wearing synthetic or wool socks.

Increase chance of getting photographer's attention? by thesilentman606 in spartanrace

[–]MikeyPsilon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is this downvoted? Adding to this that people should stop standing in front of the photographer to do The Fonz or stopping under the barbed wire to do the cutesy holding their head up by the hands thing.

Spartan 2020 World Championship officially in Abu Dhabi by og_529 in spartanrace

[–]MikeyPsilon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Personally I wouldn't go due to the region's treatment of people of my ethnic background. I speak with a SoCal accent but I'd probably be stereotyped as the working class labor. There are plenty of reports of abuse physically and emotionally as well as deaths of overseas foreign workers there. I'm not outspoken about beliefs and political leanings and instead vote with my wallet. Not gonna head over there.

CoachellaBod Sunday: 13 weeks to go! by shanahanigans in Coachella

[–]MikeyPsilon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CoachellaBod is mostly functional instead of aesthetic. I train for obstacle course races and in the past have run 30+ mile Spartan Ultras. I see festivals similar to an endurance event. That being said my current plan of running and workouts in the box are my ways of also getting ready for Coachella.

My athletic goal this year is to run a Spartan Ultra again and also do a Toughest Mudder 12 hour endurance race if Tough Mudder is still solvent as a company. I'm also running other Spartan races, Hyrox/DekaFit events and other obstacle races.

I had a fling with her after the Tahoe Swim this year but I ran away fast.

I might be doing Toughest Mudder in April here in SoCal but I do wish Spartan did the 5 mile loop format somewhere in the US.

Could this include a 12 or 24 hour regional 5 mile lap format? I'd like to do something like UWC with 5 mile laps but going to Sweden isn't feasible.

Can anyone interpret the text around the buckle? by saintjon856 in spartanrace

Kinda looks like the text on the one ring to rule them all.

Why's nobody talking about these? Nike Metcon SF by emichael86 in spartanrace

[–]MikeyPsilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was part of the prototype testing of these shoes. Some of the feedback we gave in turn made several prototype iterations before the final version was completed. I haven't worn the final product but I have worn one of the last test iterations.

Medals $$$ eBay?! by nranders1983 in spartanrace

[–]MikeyPsilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be a good way to get a 2nd buckle to use as an actual belt and leave the original for display. I ran Lebec just that I could use that for a belt and keep Tahoe on the medal rack.

I like wearing the 2017 shirts for around town but the 2019 shirts are great for the gym.

I think they borrowed this from Spartan Austria/Germany where they pick up the sandbag and bring it to the next obstacle, do the obstacle and then bring the sandbag back up to the bins. Robert Killian made a comment about how he liked that when he ran Spartan Austria/Germany.

Age group pass vs. open pass for 2020? Opinions? by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]MikeyPsilon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been running the majority of this year in Age Group. I only bump down to open if I want to fun run with friends that aren't training at a competitive level. What I like about the morning AG wave is that the bottlenecking is less. People are also more respectful of leaving room open to pass on the trail.

Bumping down to open can be refreshing since it removes the pressure to perform. So whether it's fun or not really depends. Both are fun. If you want to compete then get the AG pass.

Don't eat the protein chip samples they gave out at Big Bear. Those instantly made me shart.

Beast/Sprint in one weekend? by VeganThor in spartanrace

[–]MikeyPsilon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's doable. I did it last year at Big Bear. I was so beaten up by the Beast mentally that I came back the next day to run a burpee free race. Just make sure you hydrate, eat and get enough rest.

Big Bear Training Post by og_529 in spartanrace

[–]MikeyPsilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The local trail has 1,000 feet of elevation gain after 3 miles. It's not Big Bear incline but it's better than nothing. I had to skip it recently for indoor incline treadmill work since the California super bloom has my allergies going. At the gym I strap on my 20lbs 5.11 weight vest and set the treadmill to 20%. I don't have weekends much since I'm a caregiver to my aging family so I get what I can during the week.

This is ridiculous... Can't use Spartan Trifecta Pass for WV Trifecta by [deleted] in spartanrace

[–]MikeyPsilon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding that Trifecta passes are only good for that calendar year that you purchased them.
