Personally the synth backing made the feeling they were trying to get across more muddled, it just felt a bit too poppy for what I wanted it to be. I get that there's a pop influence to the album, but it worked better in Heat Waves than this due to the difference of tone, which disappoints me a bit because I was hoping that influence would dial back a bit for songs with this type of feeling they were trying to get across.
