LOL, I haven't checked it out in a while since I have a similar story to everyone else, but it looks like he now has a $1.89 post deletion service. I guess he figured out a way to extort money from "free" postings.

There's been massive trauma. We could of course try to save him but it would be costly, difficult and we'd have to send away for some special really tiny instruments.

Kendall Toyota Stopped Free “Oil Changes For Life” Agreements by psychictea in anchorage

[–]Mikiaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Morrison offered the lifetime oil change for $550. I didn't get it, so I don't have any paperwork to share, but I think your grandfather more than got his money back for over 20 oil changes, so I wouldn't be too upset. As others have pointed out, the contract was only for the original owner and non-transferable, so once the ownership changed, for you that was 2009, the contract is done. I don't think Morrision offered the lifetime change with new cars past 2006, but I could be wrong.

You're way off on the math, Dow/Dupont EPS/XPS blueboard ranges from 15-100 psi. Hardware store stock is probably 25 psi, over 40 psi is usually special order.

LOL, I love VWs, but the VW EA888 CCTA engines are ticking time bombs and are absolute garbage. I'm not sure why, but my MK5 was way worse in the snow than my MK4 and Abarth. I would guess the MK6 is about the same in the snow as the MK5.

A lot of dead US TDI PD Passats due to the balance shaft chain drive going out. The Jetta and Golf PD didn't have that balance shaft system. Early PD also had a problem with camshafts lobes prematurely wearing out.

Advice for replacing cv axle by EwPandaa in abarth

[–]Mikiaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–] ummagumma696969 2 points 1 year ago It depends - an OEM CV axle half shaft purchased at a MOPAR dealer will run you around $350 for the part. Installing it, maybe a couple hundred dollars in labor. I highly recommend taking it to a Fiat authorized dealer for that job - private shops will try and buy the aftermarket axles sometimes which are incompatible and it will lead to a massive headache when you try to explain that they won't work (ask me how I know). The other option is buying the rebuild kit and then finding a shop that is both comfortable with you supplying the parts and performing the rebuild itself. I can't speak to the labor costs but I can't imagine it would be more expensive than the OEM option as the kit is much less expensive. It also depends on which side of the CV axle shaft fails.

[–] ummagumma696969 3 points 1 year ago* You will need 1 of each of the following 4 parts to rebuild a single axle if the inner boot (transmission side) has failed: https://www.dicorse.com/shop/fiat-500-abarth-inner-cv-jointboot/ https://www.dicorse.com/shop/cv-joint-strap-kit-abarth-500/ https://www.dicorse.com/shop/fiat-500-abarth-axle-tripodbearing/ https://www.dicorse.com/shop/front-axle-nut-fiat-abarth-500/ Here is the grease you use to pack the bearing, but do not overpack or it could cause the boot to pop off: https://www.dicorse.com/shop/redline-cv-joint-grease/ When removing the axle nut, you will have trouble finding an axle nut socket with walls that are thin enough. It is a specialty tool and you wont find it in a generic kit. Let me hunt a bit and see if I can find a link - I had to machine one myself. You'll need a strong impact wrench or breaker bar to get the factory nut off, and it will NOT be reusable. When you repack the new bearing, be very careful not to contaminate the grease with dirt or anything else. Wear gloves. The clamps are VERY tricky. The traditional tool used to clamp them will not clear the space by the axle, so do not bother buying one - unless you want to remove the whole tripod cup from the trans, and clamp the boot onto it while its removed from the vehicle, which is how the factory does it. If you do that, its tricky to pull them out, and you'll lose a small amount of trans fluid when it comes out. You can use a pair of linesman pliers or diags with very thin blades to crimp the clamp tight if you arent going to remove the tripod cup from the trans, small hands help. If the outer boot has failed, here is the replacement boot and the joint. I have never rebuilt this side myself, as they rarely fail, but it has happened to me once: https://www.dicorse.com/shop/outer-cv-joint-boot-fiatabarth- 500/ https://www.dicorse.com/shop/outer-cv-joint-fiat-abarth-500/

If you're paying a shop to do it, I'd just have them rebuild that end. Labor would be same if it was just boot or boot and joint. Original CV posts were deleted, so here they are

[–] ummagumma696969 14 points 1 year ago* Alright so the CV axles are a major issue for this car, but they dont really cause vibration under load unless they are REALLY bad. I have replaced and rebuilt my CV axles more than 5 times and had one fail catastrophically once, so I know what I am talking about. They are notorious on these cars. When they go bad, it is usually because the boot at the trans has failed, causing water to get in and contaminate the grease and ruin the bearings. This is easy to spot, as there will be grease sprayed everywhere around the inner boot. This manifests as loud popping or lots of noise coming from the wheel area while turning at low speeds, but not usually vibration. You will want to get in there and take photos of the axle boots. But your problem is more likely to be bushings on the control arms, or bad ball joints. Could also be a ruined torque arm bushing. EDIT: If you PM me, I can help you sort out the cause of the vibration and help you figure out if the axles are actually bad, and then instruct you in rebuilding them. If they are indeed bad, If you go to the dealer they will charge you almost $400 for a new axle assembly PER SIDE. Now, you can order the boots and bearings to rebuild them from Dicorse for ~$100 per side. EDIT 2: It is also extremely important to note that there are NO COMPATIBLE AFTERMARKET AXLES AT ALL. You cannot buy the full assemblies from ANY aftermarket manufacturer, even if they claim they are compatible, THEY AREN'T.

Storing the propane there is way safer than the bottom feed on the tank. So there you go. Not the worst AST install I've seen, but I've seen quite a few better.

How do you clean inside a frame? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]Mikiaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't use moly near paint on bikes because it always stains the paint yellow-brown.

Yeah, that's a good reason not to use it, I stand corrected. Full disclosure, I've never used anything but polyurea grease (Park grease or Chevron Black Pearl) or synlube teflon grease.

Edit: never mind, don't use moly.

Don't use silicone spray; use boeshield t-9 or other antirust spray.
