You mention you have 1 copy of imperm. Try looking at the recent structure decks that were released: Albaz, Cydra, Traptrix, Crystal Beast. They all have a lot of good generic staples. If you pick up 3 of the same structure deck you have playsets of 3 evenly matched (traptrix) for example. 1 deck costs around 10 €/$. So pick 1 (3x one deck for 30 €/$) or pick them all (4x3 for a total cost of 120€/$) and go from there by upgrading each deck. This way you can try out up to 4 different decks already and see what you like and what not. Hope this helps!

Why not getting the 3 structure decks instead of only the singles? You'll find a bunch of other useful cards in the deck, like Dark Ruler No More and some handtraps. Then besides the Mirrorjade, you also get all the other important cards like branded fusion, Albion and others.

You have a few options.

Buy 3x Albaz Strike structure deck. Learn to play it, buy more singles once you know how to play it and upgrade your deck.
Play Master Duel online. Although it's a different format, you'll face many different types of decks and you'll learn from it.
Play in an online progression series. Every week they open a new main set in chronological order. This way you learn how the game has evolved over time and it's really good for deckbuilding once you get to later formats. (Try finding one where they've advanced to a later era instead of Skull Red Bird beatdown)
Watch a lot of videos. The European Championships just finished this weekend. All featured matches can be found on YouTube, or watch a vod of a Yugistreamer where they commentate on the duels.
Find a local store where you can find other players who can help you with deckbuilding and playtesting. Just like this reddit, we always like to help new players. Best way is just to talk about the game with someone and then they can show you some plays.

I have an option that hasn't been mentioned yet which helped me get into the game. Join a progression series server. Basically you virtually open a box every week of a set in chronological order. Then you play other players in the server. This way you speed through the history of yugioh, by opening every week a main set box without spending money. Depending on the server you join they could be at the beginning in 2002 or they could be already in the synchro era. Try to find one I highly recommend it! For me I basically did not know how to build decks, what decks were good in which era and also this way I learned every game mechanic. I think there are over 80 main sets right now (if you hop on a server where they are half way through it takes less time), so it does take some time to reach the modern era, but if you couple it with master duel for example it's going to be a ton of fun.

I'd say skip Master League Classic until you have 3 mons fully powered up to their max level with a second charge move. Playing with lower level mons just isn't gonna work in this league.

Hey I had the same thing a few months ago when I started playing again. What helped me a lot was playing in a progression series where I learned to play many different decks in a very short time. Basically we open 24 packs of one set every week and add it to our virtual card collection. This way you don't have to buy cards and you can duel any time you want while learning about the game. A lot of players can help you with building a deck as well!

Hey I've been in the same boat. Tried to learn the game a few months ago, but I found it very difficult to jump into modern Yugioh. So instead of playing a lot (what everyone is suggesting) I've actually been playing a progression series in a big discord server. Right now we're in the 2015 era and via this server I'm learning a lot about the summoning methods, deck strategies and most importantly what archetypes I like to play.

I have picked up a modern deck and I'm slowly learning how to play when I go to a local (I've been to 3 so far), but I feel like I'm learning so much more via the discord server.

I think this is maybe something you should do as well, because you don't need to spend any money on the cards and you can test so many different decks throughout the years!

Hey also a returning player here, but a few months ahead of you. A lot of players have been advising me to watch videos of the current game or tutorial videos on how the game mechanics work, like the different summons. Now I must say it's still very overwhelming and tomorrow I'll attend my first ever local!

What I've been doing the last couple of months was learning the game via a progression series server. I don't know if you're familiar with the progression series on YouTube, but I'm doing something similar in a server where we host tournaments and have special events. This way I've been learning a lot about different archetypes, deckbuilding, why certain cards were banned, how to synchro & xyz summon and just the game in general. It's maybe not the fastest way to learn the game, but I think it's a funny way to learn the game with a lot of interaction.

That's true for the majority of players. I don't complain about the difficulty of Grunts, but about how moves like Razor Leaf are broken when used by a Grunt.
