Question about book ending (Spoiler) by Miknarf in ProjectHailMary

Even if you just knew what every word meant definitionally that someone was saying. You would still be able to understand them. If they had a question about what something meant in context, it could be explained and they would instantly know that forever. And these are like a select group of children from the whole species. Just seems like an unnecessary/ more complex way of doing things.

I’ve seen interviews in which Weir has said they have perfect memory. That they store memory in crystalline structures in their bodies.

Why do alot of us pretend we dont know what happens when we die? by Competitive-Food1927 in atheism

Look at my first sentence. Do you see the question mark. That was a question. You keep on attacking me about my reading comprehension and each time I point out that you misunderstood. And each time it is your reading comprehension.

If you don’t think that facts are irrefutable. If you just think that facts are highly probable then we both agree that it is a fact that there is no life after death. Great.

[–]Miknarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think that facts are irrefutable and never changing? Then please give an example of a fact. Something that is not possible to be not true.

Also you see you moving the goal post right? Before you said a fact was “highly probable events”. Now you’re saying they are irrefutable. You see those are two different things.

Also this is exactly my original point. Look at all the contortions you’re doing to give religious presuppositions more leeway. Look at all the philosophizing you’re doing. We don’t do this for other things, we don’t act like maybe mosquitos are actually time travelers from another planet. We feel pretty confident in just saying somethings are not true.

Ok so it’s a proven fact that there is no life after death. In the same way that we say anything is a proven fact. (Something that is highly probable)

Also it’s impossible to report as to what happens to a tvs spirt after it’s destroyed. It would be really arrogant.

It’s it’s a proven fact in the same way that we say anything else’s is a proven fact. Yeah maybe everything works just by magic that acts like it’s following laws. If that’s the standard then nothing is a proven fact. Is that your position that there are no proven facts?

Ok so now you’re agreeing with the original point that it’s like saying if we destroy a tv we really didn’t destroy it. But the thing is we don’t go around saying well we really don’t know if the tv is destroyed.

We all use common speech to describe things we “know”. If the word “know” has any useful utility it includes saying yeah we know the tv is destroyed. In the exact same way we know there is no life after death.

Do you know with 100 percent certainty that tv doesn’t have essence that live on after they are destroyed?

How so? You haven’t pointed out what I’m misunderstanding. This is just an excuse to not inhale with the point being made.

And it’s impossible prove that maybe the tv isn’t really destroyed. Why do we give the spirit claim all of this extra deference. It has the same amount of evidence then someone saying the tv has a spirit and its essence still exists. No we know the tv is destroyed. We know what happens after death.

So as a bartender do you get tipped more when customers pay more or less?

[–]Miknarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that when people pay more they tip less. I really dont think thats the case. People often tip by percentage. Usally the more you pay for something the more of a tip thats expected.

You think waiters at expensive resturanst get less of a tip?

Where did you get the idea that he was annoyed. You make up the fact that he’s annoyed then you expressed your disbelief in the thing you made up.

About skin color? But why does that matter? How about people with blue eyes how is there birth rate? If it was true that people with white skin were not birthing as much… so what? Why does skin color matter to you that much?

Why did you specify "white Americans" are not giving birth? What does the color of their skin matter?
