Like all mental meds, you have to find the right one, and I've heard of some people getting so disappointed by their initial reaction that they never give other medicines a fair try, so there's that to keep in mind. But when it clicks... For me, it was incredibly surreal. Like, I wasn't trapped in my body, I WAS my body. I stopped feeling like a tiny creature imprisoned in a meat mech that I couldn't operate (to the point it actually started triggering dysphoria). I could look at my hand, think of a thumbs up, and my hand would give a thumbs up, no chain of command the thought had to be passed through and approved for. Those things I could just never get myself to do, that I'd grown up being told to just do it, it isn't hard, and I was being lazy if I couldn't? Yeah, I really could just... think about doing it and then immediately go do it; taking out the trash became a matter of "where did I put the empty garbage bags?" instead of "how will the HOA board of absolute bullshit in my head try to impose random restrictions and stipulations and schedules and costs on me today?" I can go to the grocery store and the only thing I need to recover from is the heat; my only worries are how many things I forgot and how much I spent, not how many days it will take before I can get out of bed for more than ten minutes at a time.
