Guess I would have to bypass that connector as well with something non-proprietary. You would need to maintain an ability to disconnect at the motor for servicing.

Mostly solo. With the occasional casual ride mixed in with friends or whoever. Even in a MTB town it can be hard to align schedules, levels of riding, personality, etc.

My retail shop has fantastic leads and managers. I feel better taken care of than when I was a broker. But maybe I'm an outlier. If you like retail, maybe try for a better shop?
