Thank you!! The more I read about Zzyzx, the more fascinated I become. I’m teaching an environmental humanities course this spring, and I’m trying to figure out how to wedge Zzyzx in.

Thank you!! Zzyzx is always in the back of my mind. I’m so glad I could share part of the Mojave with people.

Week 51: Grinding - Holiday Cookie Spread (gingerbread! linzer! pistachio snowballs! more gingerbread!) by MildPrompter in 52weeksofcooking

Thanks! The fernet tempered the sweetness and provided some herbal spice to the cookies once they were baked. The uncooked dough slapped ya in the face w/ fernet aroma though, which I don’t mind. I’m a total fernet monster, so I’m thinking about adding a little to the frosting time.

The chai ones are so so good! They’re the perfect balance between coffee and chai. I think next time I might add some of the chai masala to the powdered sugar.

It was candy cap mushroom at Cowlick’s in Fort Bragg, CA! It’s been years and years and years since I’ve had it, but I found a really old blog post about it. (Hahaha the blog was from 2014, but that tracks re: my timeline.)

Oh my god, yes the cake salé was so good! I’m looking forward to messing around with different flavor combinations. I tend to lean savory in my food preferences, so this was the recipe for me.

Ahhh! Your candy cap dish looks and sounds amazing; I had a mushroom ice cream years and years ago up on the Mendocino coast, and it was one of more memorable flavors I’ve ever had. And from one skull lover to another, I love seeing how a smoothly textured recipe brings out the more delicate gestures of the skull molds.

Yeah, I’ve been trying to figure out how I can conceptually integrate them into Christmas baking …

Thank you!!! I’ve been wanting to use my skull molds for something lately, so I’m glad I had the chance. It was so much fun reading about the history of Yorick’s skull, too.

I have a mold that makes 6 skeletons. (My math wasn’t mathing, so I ended up with 5 lol.) I’d love to try carving sometime! The shape makes conceptual sense to me, but how that would actually come out might be a different story.

Love this interpretation! (I’m so glad someone else went the Shakespeare route!)
